Your Mr. D’Agostino is doing a splendid job. Yes, this is the time to get the right kind of judges on the bench. But while I agree wholeheartedly, we must remember an even more fundamental problem, viz. the tyranny of judges even if they are the right kind.
Lincoln tackled this problem, and I think showed that only a President can solve it. I’ve published a long analysis of the question and will try to get it to you. Again, I agree: one problem at a time.

As you know very well, our happiness has been tainted by the departure of our dear Holy Father. I am with you in prayer. Pope John Paul II went to God as we were praying before the exposed Holy Sacrament. We continued the vigil through his funeral and nine days after, meditating on his Message of Life. We join our brothers to ask that our cardinals will hear the Holy Spirit and receive His Light in order to choose the new successor of Peter.

Your excellent report of your trip to the South Pacific brought back memories of my World War II service in that area as a 21-year-old U.S. Marine Corps lieutenant in the Admiralties, New Guinea, Philippines, and Palau.
