COVID Controversy

Email Revelation: Recently released emails confirm that Dr. Anthony Fauci knew about gain-of-function research occurring in Wuhan before the pandemic. Fauci mentioned research regarding the genetic mutation of organisms happening at Wuhan University in an email dated February 1, 2020. The email was released by the U.S. House of Representatives Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic on July 13.

“From the beginning, Fauci was Gain-of-Function research’s greatest advocate–and funder,” says PRI President Steven Mosher. “I wrote about this extensively in my The Politically Incorrect Guide to Pandemics. He was perfectly aware of what was happening in Wuhan because he was  funding it through EcoHealth Alliance. In my opinion, he belongs in an orange jumpsuit.”

Deepening Depopulation

Unsettling Comment: Vice President Kamala Harris made an allegedly accidental but rather unsettling statement that the US needs to “reduce population” to fight climate change. The White House quickly labeled the comment as a mistake. Harris apparently meant to say “reduce pollution” in a speech about clean energy. The comment is unsettling coming from a top government official even if it was simply a verbal mixup.

“I believe that Harris inadvertently spilled the beans about the real agenda behind the radical environmental agenda, which is depopulation,” says Mr. Mosher. “In fact, groups like Negative Population Growth are cheering her ‘reduce population’ comment as a ‘call to action.’ “

A Big Online Problem: Author and policy advisor Teresa Mull uncovers the connection between social media usage and pornography addictions, which she asserts lead to lower birth rates. A large amount of time spent online exposes people to harmful content, leading to physical and mental health problems that hurt marriage and the family.

“Social media is rotten with pornographic images, and helps lead impressionable young people down the path to pornography addictions,” says Mr. Mosher. “It used to be forbidden to send pornographic material through the mail. Now some of the sickest stuff in the world is just a click away.”

Communist China

Deal Broken Again: For the second time in a year, Chinese authorities appointed a bishop without Vatican approval. Pope Francis confirmed the appointment of Joseph Shen Bin as bishop of Shanghai on July 15, validating the selection made by Chinese authorities earlier this year. China first violated the Vatican deal regarding the appointment of bishops by installing an unapproved bishop last November.

“In 2018, before the signing of the Sino-Vatican Agreement, I personally met with Cardinal Parolin for an hour to warn him not to be deceived by the Chinese Communist Party,” says Mr. Mosher. “The agreement was signed-and renewed—anyway, and what I predicted has now come to pass. The Underground Church has been crushed, and the CCP-controlled church has become ever more a tool of the state. It is now clear that it is the Communist Party, not the Pope, who ‘appoints’ bishops. The Sino-Vatican Agreement is a humiliating failure.”

“This past Saturday, Pope Francis caved,” says Mr. Mosher. “He finally accepted the Chinese Communist Party’s candidate for bishop of Shanghai, the most important diocese in all of China.”

Negative News: Chinese media outlets are publishing negative reports about the U.S. and Europe while many middle-class and wealthy Chinese citizens are fleeing the country. For example, some Chinese news reports recently claimed that police violence is widespread across the U.S. Despite the unfavorable picture being made by local media sources, a steady flow of Chinese individuals are making their exit.

Getting Ready: China is reportedly preparing their infrastructure and economy for war against Taiwan. China is stockpiling supplies such as gold and grain—the country has enough of the latter to avoid starvation among its large population for over a year in case of emergency. The largest combat hospital in the world is also being built in a region close to Taiwan. One expert compared China’s preparatory actions to those of Russia prior to invading Ukraine.

UN Misdeeds

Attacking Fertility: The UN promoted abortion and contraception in the name of “gender equality” in their new “State of the World Population” report. The authors claim that higher fertility will not contribute to long-term economic growth. Instead, the report urges aging countries with low fertility rates to focus on gender equality, a term that the UN uses to refer to abortion and contraception access.

Fatal Funds: A recent WHO report reveals how much the organization spent on funding abortions internationally from 2022-2023. The Human Reproduction Programme (HRP), a joint project between the WHO and UN, spent 11% of its $72 million budget on what they term “safe abortion.” The budget saw a 4% increase in abortion funding since the last funding period, notably providing no money for alternatives to abortion.

Science Gone Mad

AI Eugenics: IVF doctors may soon use artificial intelligence to choose embryos for implantation. Software invented in Tel Aviv, Israel, evaluates embryos created by IVF for characteristics such as genetic abnormalities and gender. The AI technology then assigns a numeric score to each embryo, which influences the doctors’ final decision of which to implant and discard. The use of selective software like this would only further promote the eugenic aspects of IVF, a practice prohibited by the Catholic Church.

Artificial Eggs: A biotech startup company in Berkeley, California, is attempting to make lab-grown human eggs. If successful, the company, known as “ Conception”, plans to commercialize the use of artificial human eggs in an IVF-like process. Human eggs made in a lab not only contradicts Church teaching, but it would also promote other banned practices such as surrogacy and IVF.

Pro-Life Around the World

Less Work Means More Babies: A Japanese company experienced a spike in the birth rate among employees after discouraging long work hours. Banning overtime shifts and late-night work resulted in doubling the Japanese birth rate within the company’s workforce—a promising trend in a country that hit a record-low birth rate this year.

Euthanasia Agenda in the UK: A physician-assisted suicide organization from Switzerland is trying to influence the British Parliament to legalize euthanasia. The company Dignitas is already responsible for taking the lives of 540 British individuals. They are now working to change the law in the UK that bans assisted suicide.

Pro-Life on the Home Front

Iowa Heartbeat Bill Blocked: An Iowa judge blocked the state’s new heartbeat bill from going into effect just one week after passing. The temporary block was requested by a Planned Parenthood located in the capital of Iowa. The bill banned abortion after 6 weeks, but abortion may continue up to 20 weeks as the legal battle plays out.

Promising Post-Dobbs Numbers: Abortion rates in Oklahoma and Arkansas dropped dramatically after Dobbs according to a new case study. The report, which was authored by a research associate at the Charlotte Lozier Institute, found that the abortion total in Arkansas dropped 48% from 2021 to 2022. Oklahoma saw a massive decrease, reporting no abortions from June to December 2022.

Abortion as an Obligation: A Pentagon spokesperson referred to ensuring abortion access as “a foundational sacred obligation.” John Kirby, the spokesman for the National Security Council, made the comment several days after the House of Representatives voted to end the Defense Department’s abortion travel policy. The policy permitted servicemembers to cross state lines for abortion and reimbursed them for travel costs.

Good News

A Football Family of 10: Former NFL quarterback Philip Rivers and his wife Tiffany are the proud parents of seven daughters, two sons, and one on the way! Rivers, who retired from the Indianapolis Colts in 2021, prioritized his family and Catholic faith throughout his career. The couple is dedicated to using Natural Family Planning, standing as true witnesses on the national stage of being open to God’s gift of life.

Quote of the Week

“As we are taught by Jesus, human life is sacred. God calls us to defend and nurture life from the moment a new human being is conceived. The Catholic Church has been clear and consistent in this teaching.”

~ Archbishop Timothy Broglio, source
