Trump Defends the Constitution

Our Founding Fathers knew that the greatest threat to freedom was the power of an unlimited national government. It still is.

Pro-life leaders around the world have long admired President Donald Trump. They credit him for the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade two years ago—a decision that received international acclaim—and rightly so.

And the international abortion combine knows they’re right. That’s why for them, Donald Trump is Public Enemy #1.

They know that he would restore his expansion of Ronald Reagan’s historic limitations on the use of U.S. “foreign aid” funding to promote abortion. In fact, they’re afraid he might cut that aid off altogether.

So Kamala is their girl.

Even across the ocean, Europeans recognize that Kamala Harris is the most unabashedly pro-abortion candidate for president in U.S. history.

Remember how she tried to force the government of Ghana to legalize not only abortion, but “same-sex” marriage? She even threatened to withhold hundreds of millions in U.S. funding for clean water and agricultural development.

That’s Kamala in a nutshell: Kill, kill, kill.

While U.S. media gushed over Kamala’s “historic visit,” Ghana’s Catholic bishops unanimously denounced her. “Don’t take her money,” said Bishop Matthew Gyamfi, president of Ghana’s Catholic Bishops’ Conference.

Memo to U.S. bishops: Go thou and do likewise.

Kamala Harris: Abortion Personified

Harris’ radical record on abortion goes back years. As California Attorney General she sent agents to ransack the homes of pro-lifers so she could prosecute them and put them in jail. She was virtually Planned Parenthood’s pro-bono lawyer.

As a U.S. Senator, her voting record was the most left-wing of all 100 senators.

As Vice-President, she has been Joe Biden’s ambassador for abortion, at home and abroad. She was proud to be the first person to hold that office to visit an abortuary while babies were actually being killed inside. The word “extreme” scarcely suffices in describing her abortion fanaticism.

So, it’s natural for pro-lifers to rally around Trump.  But Trump’s more recent comments, that he believed six weeks too early to ban abortion and his refusal to support a federal ban on abortion have caused some pro-lifers to question their support. Internationally, similar complaints are being heard, with one of Spain’s most prominent pro-life leaders saying his European allies do not understand why Trump vowed not to support a national bill to ban abortion.

Of course, Spain’s constitution does not limit the national government’s powers, while reserving other powers to “states and for the people,” as our Constitution does. That’s why the abortion law passed by Spain’s Socialist government in 2010 is “the law of the land.” The country’s fifty provinces have no further say in the matter.

Democrats Go For Broke – By Breaking the Law

Both American and international prolifers, however, should contrast Trump’s position, with that of Democrats: At the Democrats’ Chicago convention last month, “Abortion Rights” was the Prime Mandate for virtually every speaker. In spite of the media’s trumpeting of “joy,” along with patriotic slogans reminiscent of the “Potemkin Village” of Stalin’s Russia, Kamala’s targeting of the innocent unborn came through loud and clear.

In fact, she supports Joe Biden’s threat to upend the Supreme Court, if necessary, to “make Roe v. Wade the law of the land.”

Outrageous, right? And maybe even unconstitutional. But one can understand why pro-lifers would respond with a similar proclamation in favor of the unborn:

“Let’s have Congress pass legislation making Dobbs the law of the land!”

Sounds good, right?

And then Donald Trump comes along and says he won’t support it.

Has he abandoned us?

What gives?

Two generations of Americans have been drilled with the mantra of Planned Parenthood: “A Woman’s Right to Choose.” Today, many simply assume that Kamala is right – that abortion is a federal issue.

But she’s wrong. Dead wrong.

Why The Dobbs Decision Matters

Our Founding Fathers insisted that the powers of the central government be strictly limited to preserve the rights and liberties proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence.

That’s why the U.S. Constitution specifically delegates certain powers to the Federal Government, but not others.

What about the rest of them?

“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people,” reads the Tenth Amendment.

That principle worked wonderfully for years. Until the 1960’s, family law, including abortion, was a state issue. Some States didn’t even bother to legislate against abortion, they merely stated that abortion was a capital crime meriting the same punishment as murder and rape – the death penalty.

Even Planned Parenthood admits that, until 1967, the laws of all fifty states punished abortion as a crime.

So where did the Warren Court get the right to overturn the laws of fifty states? Wasn’t that unconstitutional?

Our Founding Fathers knew that the greatest threat to freedom was the power of an unlimited national government. In the twentieth century, however, Woodrow Wilson and FDR whetted the progressive Left’s appetite to seize that power.

They finally succeeded in 1958, when the Supreme Court claimed for itself the ultimate right to interpret the text of the Constitution:

“The interpretation of the Fourteenth Amendment enunciated by this Court in the Brown case is the supreme law of the land,” it stated in Aaron v. Cooper.

It didn’t take long for the Court to so fully ignore the limits placed on the Federal Government and begin to wade into issues previously left to the states. Roe v. Wade came following decades of decisions that ignored the constitutional structure of federalism.

Of course, there were no Constitutional grounds to support its decision, so the Court relied solely on sociological arguments.

Forty-nine long years later, the Dobbs decision overturned Roe v. Wade and in doing so, stressed that the word “abortion” appears nowhere in the Constitution. While the Supreme Court did not simultaneously restore federalism as a governing principle, the constitutional structure remains—and that structure delegated only limited and enumerated powers to Congress, and left the rest to the States and the people.

Of course, abortion fanatics don’t care if Kamala’s “law of the land” campaign is unconstitutional. Neither does she.

But Trump’s position recognizes the supremacy of federalism and the historical fact that until 1973, each State in the Union regulated abortion separately.

The Pro-Life Challenge

“But so many states have passed pro-abortion laws, why can’t we prevent that?”

For fifty years, most Americans never even knew that there was an alternative to “abortion rights.”

Yes, education is the cultural challenge – although many will not have “ears to hear.” But there’s a political challenge as well.

If Kamala and “Tampon Tim” win, they will lead the campaign to “reform the Supreme Court” – using every means, however vicious and illegal, to attack conservative Justices now while passing legislation to allow Harris to appoint new members until they have enough votes to overturn Dobbs.

At that point, the Court, our last defense against tyranny, will collapse – and so will the Constitution.

What to do?

The Left thinks long-term. They know that Dobbs isn’t the last step the Court will take to end judicial overreach.

For the Left, this is Armageddon. It’s Russia 1917. China 1949. Nicaragua 1979. Either they win and immediately destroy every limit to their power now, or their power will slowly be reduced and the Rule of Law restored.

In 1798, John Adams admonished officers of the Massachusetts Militia that “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

That’s right – we have a lot of work to do, state by state, town by town, from the ground up. Most Americans innately understand the Natural Law. Even though the Supreme Court banned the Ten Commandments forty years ago, “Thou Shalt Not Kill” still resonates in our hearts.

Kamala wants to kill more than innocent unborn babies. She wants to kill the Constitution, and with it, our liberty.

Forever.

That’s what’s at stake, and Donald Trump knows it.
