PRI in the Media

South America Turns from Beijing: Recently, PRI President Steven Mosher appeared in The Epoch Times, analyzing how the collapse of Venezuela’s Maduro regime has dealt a major blow to the CCP’s ambitions in South America. Mr. Mosher argued that Beijing’s support for socialist and authoritarian governments—particularly Venezuela—has backfired as voters across the region elect populist, pro-sovereignty leaders. He highlighted recent conservative victories in countries such as Argentina, El Salvador, Chile, and Ecuador, signaling a regional rejection of socialism and China’s growing influence in the Americas.

Deepening Depopulation

Migration Can’t Replace Irish Births: A new report from Ireland’s National Economic & Social Council warns that migration cannot replace native births in addressing the country’s demographic crisis. Ireland’s fertility rate has fallen to 1.5, down from 2.0 in 2012, a 25% decline in just over a decade. The population is projected to age rapidly and begin contracting by the 2050s. The report cautions that relying on migration alone risks economic stagnation, fiscal strain, and regional inequality, urging coordinated policies that support families and childbearing.

“Ireland’s globalist elites are now admitting the obvious,” says Mr. Mosher. “Namely, that immigration can never make up for the dramatic collapse in Irish birth rates of recent years. Not to mention that bringing in large numbers of Third World peasants will completely destroy the cultural fabric and social cohesion of the country, with all the problems that this entails.”

Happiness Isn’t Square Footage: A growing body of research suggests that simply increasing living space does not guarantee greater happiness. While the average new American home now offers over 940 square feet per person, up from 550 in 1973, household size has fallen to a record 2.5 people, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Some researchers argue that relationships—not square footage—drive well-being. However, celebrating dense urban living overlooks its well-documented link to declining family formation and fertility, particularly in highly crowded cities.

“Only the clueless mainstream media could write an article celebrating stuffing a family of four into a 560 square foot apartment in New York City,” says Mr. Mosher. “The couple interviewed claimed that the close quarters enhanced family life. In fact, what studies show is that crowded urban settings are the death of fertility and families. That is why the crowded city of Macao—where virtually everyone lives in high-rise apartment buildings—now has the lowest birth rate in the world, averaging only 0.5 children per woman over her reproductive lifetime.”

No Clear Pattern in Poland’s Births: A new analysis of fertility patterns in Poland challenges many common assumptions about why birth rates rise or fall. According to the researcher, fertility shows no consistent relationship with religiosity, working hours, housing type, or housing affordability. Highly religious regions can have both high and very low fertility, while urban professionals in cities like Warsaw sometimes match or exceed suburban birth rates. Even cheaper housing does not reliably correlate with higher fertility. The findings suggest that no single economic or cultural factor adequately explains Poland’s fertility decline.

“A couple of dozen factors influence fertility, as we can see from this Polish study,” says Mr. Mosher. “The interplay between them is complicated. But one factor is universal—everyone in today’s world is online. And in many, many cases people are sacrificing real life—their families and children—for a virtual life online, a life which in more ways than one is completely sterile.”

Communist China

Chinese Couples Staying Child-Free: Despite Beijing’s escalating efforts to boost births, many young Chinese couples are opting to remain child-free or delay parenthood. China’s population has now declined for three consecutive years, with the United Nations warning it could fall from 1.4 billion today to as low as 633 million by 2100. Births plunged to just 9.54 million in 2024, half the level recorded in 2016. Interviews cited by AFP show high living costs, career pressures, long “996” work hours, and lingering effects of the one-child policy continue to outweigh government incentives, including childcare subsidies and taxes on contraception.

UN Misdeeds

Nordics Push Abortion at UN: Nordic governments are using UN mechanisms to aggressively advance abortion and gender ideology worldwide, particularly through the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), where states review one another on human rights. In the latest session, 12 of 35 abortion-related recommendations came from Nordic countries, with Iceland alone responsible for nearly 20% of such pressure. Nordic governments pushed for abortion to be legalized, expanded, and stripped of protections for conscientious objectors. On sexual orientation and gender identity, Nordic countries issued 33 of 160 recommendations. These efforts are reinforced by sustained UN partnerships and funding streams, especially through UNFPA and UN Women.

Science Gone Mad

Gender Insanity Revealed: PRI received a letter from a good friend this week that read:

“When debating with the gender ideology advocates, I have come up with a somewhat different approach. I tell them that I identify as disabled and that I’m planning on participating in the next Special Olympics. I am not disabled, but asking them why I can’t participate in the Special Olympics if I identify as disabled puts some in a very tough position. It is so obviously similar to men competing against women with the gender ideology that they almost always have to say it’s okay for me to participate in the Special Olympics. It exposes their idiocy a little bit more each time. Feel free to use it, promote it, and spread it as far as possible. It will be fascinating to see if the radicals can come up with any type of coherent answer for it that doesn’t either offend the disabled, or make them rethink gender ideology.”

Mr. Mosher responded: “Your proposal crystalizes the perfect nonsense that transgender advocates are spouting. The good news is that the tide has turned in America, and in Latin America—where our Latin American office has stopped gender ideology in a couple of countries—on this issue. Sadly, dying Europe is still woefully behind.”

CDC Corruption Allegations Exposed: A recent Substack article highlights allegations raised through AlterAI, claiming serious misconduct at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). According to the report, an ongoing audit has allegedly uncovered suppressed vaccine safety data, altered statistical analyses, and conflicts of interest involving more than 40 CDC employees. The article also points to missing autism-related datasets from 2000–2015 and claims that some records were destroyed. The findings have been referred to the Department of Justice and could result in major public data releases, though the allegations have not yet been fully proven.

“It is becoming ever clearer that the CDC was, as many suspected, in the pocket of Big Pharma,” says Mr. Mosher. “It was not just suppressing, but actually destroying data that showed that the over-growing infant vax schedule was causing harm. How much of the decline in America’s birth rate can be traced to the difficulties of raising autistic children?”

Pro-Life Around the World

Sex-Selective Abortion in Nepal: Nepal’s gender gap is widening as illegal sex-selective abortions continue largely unchecked despite formal bans. In 2024, 16.71% fewer girls than boys were born nationwide, with even wider disparities in rural areas. More than 105,000 abortions were recorded last fiscal year, though officials believe many more go unreported since abortion drugs are available for purchase over-the-counter. Research cited by the British Medical Journal found that between 2002 and 2011, one in 50 girls was aborted, worsening to one in 38 by 2011.

Europe’s Expanding Culture of Death: Since World War II, Europe has steadily abandoned Christianity as public policy has grown more secular and socially liberal. Euthanasia is now legal in countries including the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Spain, and Portugal, while assisted dying is advancing in the U.K. and France. Twelve European countries allow legal gender changes based on self-determination, and 18 EU states permit puberty blockers for minors. Meanwhile, abortion is legal on request in most of Europe, with 15 countries expanding access since 2021.

Pro-Life on the Home Front

Hyde Amendment Under Fire: President Trump sparked backlash from pro-life leaders after urging House Republicans to be “flexible” on the Hyde Amendment, the 1976 provision barring most federal abortion funding, including through Medicaid. The remarks drew swift criticism from pro-life groups and lawmakers who warned that Hyde is a non-negotiable principle. The controversy comes despite President Trump reaffirming Hyde just last year through an executive order directing federal agencies to enforce the funding ban.

“The Democrats are threatening another government shutdown unless Obamacare plans to fund abortion,” says Mr. Mosher. “Republicans must not compromise with Democrats on this key amendment. Instead, they should go on the offensive and expand Hyde protections to all plans covered by Obamacare—the Affordable Care Act—from covering abortions.”

Colorado Penalized for APR Ban: Colorado has agreed to pay $6.1 million in attorneys’ fees after a federal court struck down the state’s unconstitutional attempt to ban abortion pill reversal (APR). The settlement includes $5.4 million paid to Becket and $700,000 to Alliance Defending Freedom. The ruling protects Bella Health and Wellness, a Catholic pro-life clinic, along with a pro-life nurse practitioner, from enforcement of the 2023 law. APR, which uses progesterone after the first abortion pill, has been shown to save 64–68% of pregnancies when reversal is attempted.

Wyoming Court Strikes Pro-Life Laws: In a 4–1 decision on January 6, the Wyoming Supreme Court struck down two major pro-life laws, including the nation’s first explicit abortion pill ban. The court ruled that Wyoming’s 2023 Life Is a Human Right Act violated a 2012 constitutional amendment guaranteeing adults’ “right to make his or her own health care decisions.” Despite being appointed by Republican governors, the majority held that abortion qualifies as “health care” under state law. Gov. Mark Gordon urged lawmakers to seek a constitutional amendment through a public referendum to ban abortion in the state.

Are the Unborn People?: In a recent commentary, Bradley W. Shumaker argues that the abortion debate ultimately hinges on whether the unborn are recognized as persons. Drawing on Scripture, particularly Psalm 22’s reference to “a people yet unborn,” Shumaker proves that the Bible affirms the personhood of the unborn even without explicitly naming abortion. He further notes that once personhood is acknowledged, both Biblical teaching and natural law—reflected in the Declaration of Independence—lead to the same conclusion: innocent human life must be protected.

“Bradley Schumacher is right. Both the Bible and our founding documents make clear that the unborn are persons,” says Mr. Mosher. “And all persons conceived in America deserve the protection of the law.”

Good News

Preemie Triplets Home for Christmas: Identical triplets born at just 29 weeks of gestation have made it home in time for Christmas after spending 10 weeks in neonatal care. Their parents, Ace and Shannon Page, were urged by doctors to abort one or two of their unborn children due to complications discovered at 19 weeks, but they refused. All three babies survived and recovered despite serious medical challenges.

Quote of the Week

Once there is agreement confirming the unborn as persons/people, there is no further need to discuss the rightness and wrongness of abortion.”
