PRI in the Media
Over 28 Million Lost to Abortion: Recently, Family Life International featured PRI President Steven Mosher’s new article, “Our Youngest Generations are Missing Millions.” Mr. Mosher warned that nearly one in five members of Generation Z (21%) and Generation Alpha (18%) have been lost to abortion—over 28 million children in total. Shockingly, Gen Z now aborts half of all its pregnancies. Mr. Mosher called for urgent action, such as banning abortion pills, making childbirth free, and exempting parents from taxes. “The future,” he concludes, “belongs to the fruitful.”
Deepening Depopulation
Utah Fertility Falls Fast: Utah, long known for its large families, is seeing a sharp demographic shift. A new report from the Utah Women and Leadership Project found the state’s fertility rate has plunged 45.5% over the past 50 years, dropping to just 1.8 children per woman. The average age of first marriage has risen to 25.2, and divorce rates have more than tripled since 1970. The report points to rising housing costs, expensive child care, and economic pressures as major factors discouraging young couples from starting families—leaving even Utah’s once-robust fertility in steady decline.
Seattle Fertility Near Record Low: Seattle’s fertility rate has plunged to the second-lowest among America’s 50 largest cities—just 31 births per 1,000 women, down from 51 in 2010. Only Portland ranks lower. By contrast, the national rate declined just 5 points in the same period. Census data show the drop is steepest among younger women, with Seattle now one of the few cities where women over 35 have higher birth rates than those under 35. Experts point to delayed marriage, career prioritization, and declining religious values as key drivers of the city’s fertility collapse.
“This is the most unsurprising news of the week,” says Mr. Mosher. “Self-absorbed, often drug-using Progressives are a remarkable infertile group, taken as a whole. They reject marriage, family and children, and average less than one child per woman over her reproductive lifetime. And Seattle is full of them.”
Unsustainable Fertility Rates: While global elites obsess over ‘sustainability,’ few acknowledge the most unsustainable crisis of our time—collapsing birth rates. The UN assumes no country will fall below 0.5 children per woman and predicts the U.S. will stabilize at 1.6. Yet South Korea faces a projected 75% generational decline, Japan is abandoning rural regions, and Europe averages just 1.4 and is falling. Unless the world rediscovers the value of marriage, faith, and family, civilization itself may fade into demographic oblivion.
Communist China
Red is the New Religion: This week, President Xi Jinping personally chaired a Politburo session on the “Sinicization of Religion,” signaling an even harsher crackdown on religious freedom in China. Xi declared that all religions must “adapt to socialist society,” with CCP committees exercising direct control over religious affairs. Under his rule, religion has been transformed from a matter of conscience into a tool of propaganda. As the article noted, Xi now presides as “high priest of a new orthodoxy,” demanding worship not of God, but of the Communist state itself.
“Communism is a cult which demands absolute obedience from its followers,” says Mr. Mosher. “Not only that, it demands that everyone else living under its jurisdiction obey the cult leader, who in China’s case is Xi Jinping. Sinicization means that the Party oversees all religions in China, ensuring that they conform to Party dictates.”
Pro-Life Around the World
Spain Moves to Constitutionalize Abortion: Spain’s socialist government, led by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, is pushing to make abortion a constitutional “right,” removing it from democratic debate. Abortion was first legalized in 1985. The practice was expanded in 2010 and again under Sánchez’s leadership—allowing late-term procedures for “mental health” reasons and permitting minors to abort without parental consent. Constitutional protection would make abortion nearly impossible to challenge, silencing pro-life voices and conscience rights. Sánchez claims the move would safeguard “women’s freedoms,” but in truth, it would entrench Spain’s growing culture of death.
Radical Pro-Abortion Orgs Join Forces: Ipas, the pro-abortion organization notorious for shipping manual vacuum aspirators around the world, has teamed up with the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO). Over the years, we at PRI have exposed Ipas for the radical organization that it is, but even more recently, we revealed FIGO’s true colors as an abortion network in a comprehensive report. The two joined forces at the XXV FIGO World Congress of Gynecology and Obstetrics held Oct. 5-9, in Cape Town, South Africa. According to emails about the event, Ipas “experts” from around the world came to share new research on “quality abortion care.”
Assisted Suicide Expands in Australia: Australia’s Northern Territory may soon legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia—without requiring a “prognosis timeframe.” A government committee has recommended legislation allowing individuals with “advanced and progressive condition(s)” to end their lives, without a defined timeframe of death. The committee warned that this could open the door to euthanasia based on disability, citing Canada’s abuses as evidence. The report admits palliative care in the Territory is “patchy and limited” even in urban areas, raising fears that death may become easier to access than care. Right to Life UK called the proposal “highly concerning” and urged lawmakers to reject it.
Dutch Parliament Rejects Abortion: The Dutch parliament has rejected a motion that would have declared abortion a “human right.” Introduced on September 23, the proposal sought to enshrine abortion in the European Union’s Charter of Fundamental Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Only 68 of 150 lawmakers voted in favor after strong opposition from Christian-rooted parties, including the Reformed Political Party (SGP) and the Christian Union. Pro-lifers distributed Live Action’s Abortion Procedures materials and photos to every member of parliament, exposing the brutal reality of abortion. Though a major victory for life, the narrow margin shows that the fight in the Netherlands is far from over.
Pro-Life on the Home Front
Trump’s FDA Greenlights Abortion Pills: The FDA, under Trump appointee Dr. Marty Makary, has approved new generic abortion pills made by Evita Solution, a company that openly seeks to “normalize abortion” and make it “accessible to all.” Despite promises of a full safety review of the chemical abortion drug, the FDA instead fast-tracked approval, prompting outrage from U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley. The move expands abortion pill access—making them cheaper and easier to obtain—rather than pausing approvals as pro-lifers expected. This unregulated distribution now lets abortion pills be mailed and taken in secret, beyond the reach of law enforcement.
“I believe that, once the safety studies are completed, that the abortion pill will be pulled off the market.” says Mr. Mosher, “Note that, for many years, Danco abortion pill (mifepristone, branded as Mifeprex) was manufactured in China. Danco Laboratories, based in New York, partnered with Shanghai Hualian Pharmaceutical Co., a Chinese firm, starting around 2000 to produce the drug, making it the sole U.S. supplier at the time. After the pills’ Chinese origins caused a scandal, production was moved to Spain. The U.S. is trying to ‘restore’ the production of pharmaceuticals, but the abortion pill is one that neither we, nor anyone else, should be making. The real news is that, for the first time, a serious effort is underway under the leadership of RFK Jr. to look at the large number of injuries and deaths from the abortion pill which, when it is finished, will hopefully result in the use of this dangerous drug being proscribed altogether, or at least strictly limited.”
Hyde Amendment Still Saving Lives: A new analysis from the Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI) finds that the Hyde Amendment has saved an estimated 2.6 million lives since its passage in 1976. The Hyde Amendment prevents federal Medicaid funds from paying for elective abortions, though 19 states now bypass it by using state dollars to cover abortion. According to researcher Dr. Michael J. New, recent pro-life laws such as Heartbeat Acts and life-at-conception protections have reduced Hyde’s direct impact by independently preventing abortions. Still, Hyde remains a cornerstone of pro-life policy—protecting tens of thousands of unborn children each year from taxpayer-funded abortion.
Sanctuary Cities Save Lives: A growing number of U.S. cities are taking local action to defend life. In a recent Federalist column, Mark Lee Dickson, founder of the Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn movement, explained how ordinances like the one in Danville, Illinois, which enforce the Comstock Act’s federal ban on mailing abortion drugs, are achieving real results. Eighty-three cities and eleven counties across seven states have now passed similar measures, stopping clinics from opening or relocating. Dickson notes that these laws aren’t “political theater” but effective pro-life policy: Lubbock, Texas’s ordinance, for instance, forced Planned Parenthood to halt abortions entirely.
Good News
Thousands March for Life in Lithuania: Thousands filled the streets of Vilnius, Lithuania, for the annual March for Life, celebrating the sanctity of every human life. Joined by participants from Latvia, Estonia, and Poland, the event featured music, speeches, and testimonies affirming faith, family, and the right to life. Religious leaders and pro-life advocates called for a “culture of life” to replace the “culture of death” inherited from Soviet times. Organizers hailed the growing movement as a turning point for the Baltics—one that could inspire a regional revival of pro-life conviction and family values.
Quote of the Week
“Who can forget that while churches were closed during the Covid lockdowns, abortion clinics were allowed to remain open. This wasn’t a medical decision, but a political one. The godless Left regards abortion as an ‘essential service,’ but God as superfluous.”
~ PRI President Steven Mosher
