Trump Defunds the UNFPA: Fulfilling another one of his campaign promises, President Donald Trump in March ordered the defunding of the UN’s chief population control organization, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). That process is now complete. Termination notices for over 40 projects promoting abortion, sterilization, and contraception have been sent, cutting off some $335 million in funding and saving countless babies.
“In a world of falling fertility, we do not need a UN population control organization forcing birthrates downward. We never did.”

PRI in the Media
Mosher Joins Varney & Co: Mr. Mosher joined Stuart Varney on his Fox Business show, Varney & Co, to discuss the tariff agreement between the U.S. and China. This development marked a diplomatic win for President Donald Trump, highlighting America’s stronger position in the global economy. During the negotiations, the Chinese Communist Party acknowledged its role in the U.S. fentanyl crisis for the first time, offering to curb the production of fentanyl precursor chemicals as a bargaining chip—despite years of denial. The U.S. came out on top in these negotiations and will continue to have the upper hand over China.
FIGO’s Dark Agenda: Featured in this piece for the International Youth Coalition Blog, our latest report has exposed one of the most extreme international abortion organizations. This report, prepared by the Ibero-American and European offices of the Population Research Institute, analyzed the radical pro-abortion strategy of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) and its affiliates. Our team found abundant evidence that FIGO, funded by USAID, was focused on ending pro-life laws, eliminating conscience protections, and more. The abortion organization was also advocating for late-term abortions and for do-it-yourself abortions with no medical assistance.
Deepening Depopulation
Employment Matters for Marriage: Rising employment instability among Japanese men has contributed to declining marriage and fertility rates. Over the years, women have increasingly joined the workforce, but traditional norms remain strong. Most women leave the workforce after childbirth and prioritize financial stability in a partner, leaving unemployed or low-income men less likely to marry and have children. As a result, Japan, like many other developed nations, has seen increases in the average age of first marriage and childbirth, alongside growing rates of lifelong singlehood and childlessness. According to a recent study, employment-related factors account for 26% of the decline in first marriage rates and 27% of the drop in first births. Additionally, employment instability explains 31% of the rise in the proportion of men never married by age 30 and 45% of the increase in childlessness by the same age.
Communist China
Eerily Empty Streets: China is facing a demographic crisis, with its population shrinking by 1.5 million between 2021 and 2025 and the birth rate dropping to just one child per woman. Official figures reflect declining births and rising deaths, with social media users describing the reality of eerily empty streets, malls, and cities. According to the “netizens,” only hospitals and crematoriums appear crowded. Rumors abound about the role of forced vaccinations in sudden deaths, though this remains unverified. Meanwhile, economic struggle—including widespread factory closures and potential job losses of up to 20 million—has fueled protests and growing unrest, particularly among rural workers. Together, these factors paint a picture of a nation under severe demographic and social pressure, raising the question of whether the CCP can retain its iron grip on China.
“The Chinese Communist Party’s statistics, including on population, are not reliable,” says Mr. Mosher. “China’s population is probably 100 million less than Beijing claims. In recent years, China’s depopulation has accelerated. The death toll from COVID-19 was far greater than China admits. At the same time, marginal villages have been abandoned, and even some smaller towns have seen shrinking populations. Finally, the economic downturn caused by Trump’s tariffs has led to massive numbers of factories and shops closing, even in the major cities, leaving entire shopping malls looking desolate.”
China Reacts to Pope Leo XIV: Ordinary Chinese Catholics and clergy have openly celebrated the new pope, already including his name in Mass prayers. Yet, China’s Catholic communities have responded to the election of Pope Leo XIV with a mix of cautious official acknowledgment and heartfelt celebration. Unlike the slow response following Pope Francis’s death on April 21, the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association and the Council of Chinese Bishops quickly issued congratulations—though the message’s full content is unknown—while the Foreign Ministry expressed hope for continued constructive dialogue with the Vatican. However, official reactions remain at the diplomatic level, with no public statements from dioceses or Church websites.
“Neither the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association nor the Council of Chinese Bishops are independent organizations,” says Mr. Mosher. “Rather, they are under the direct control of the United Front Department of the Chinese Communist Party. These puppet organizations have to dance to the CCP’s tune, or they won’t be ‘dancing’ at all.”
UN Misdeeds
Millions to the UNFPA: From 2019 to 2023, the Irish Government allocated €37.7 million (~ $42.2 million) in taxpayer funds to the UN Population Fund (UNFPA). This “extortionate” amount was revealed by Independent Ireland TD, Deputy Ken O’Flynn, in a response to a Parliamentary Question. Eilís Mulroy of the Pro Life Campaign strongly condemned this funding to the ideologically-driven organization, which promotes abortion, sterilization, and contraception around the world, particularly in developing countries. She criticized the lack of public debate and accused the government of misusing foreign aid to fund abortion under the guise of “sexual and reproductive health.” Mulroy also highlighted additional funding of €2.3 million to the International Planned Parenthood Federation since 2022 and over €50 million spent on abortion services in Ireland over six years, bringing the total to nearly €100 million.
Pro-Life Around the World
Abortion in Australia: A bill expanding abortion access has passed both houses of the New South Wales parliament, allowing nurse-practitioners and endorsed midwives to prescribe abortion medication in early pregnancies. While MPs were given a conscience vote, the bill’s passage marks another step toward normalizing and increasing abortion access. Originally, the bill also sought to force doctors with moral or religious objections to abortion to refer patients to willing providers. However, this coercive clause, along with some mandatory reporting rollbacks, was removed in the upper house due to insufficient support. While the removal of these elements is a small victory for conscience protections, the broader passage of the bill marks the continued expansion of pro-abortion sentiment in Australia.
Pro-Lifers March in Toronto: On May 10th, approximately 400 pro-life advocates gathered in downtown Toronto to march for life. These pro-lifers called for an end to abortion and the protection of unborn children in Canada, a country with no legal restrictions on abortion. Organized by the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform and Toronto Right to Life, the march featured speeches highlighting the humanity of the unborn and the harm abortion causes to both mothers and babies. Former abortionist Dr. Kathi Aultman shared her personal transformation, acknowledging her past actions and urging women to recognize that abortion is not a solution but a tragic loss of life. The event served as a unified stand for the voiceless and a plea for a culture that upholds life and supports real alternatives to abortion.
Pro-Life on the Home Front
Defund Planned Parenthood: Pro-life lawmakers from across the U.S. are urging Republican leadership in Congress to defund Planned Parenthood, calling on them to use their current majority to strip taxpayer funding from the nation’s largest abortion provider. In a letter signed by 183 state legislators and sent to top GOP leaders, including Senate Majority Leader John Thune and House Speaker Mike Johnson, they demand the inclusion of defunding measures in the upcoming budget reconciliation bill. Citing Planned Parenthood’s role in performing hundreds of thousands of abortions every year, while receiving hundreds of millions in federal funds, the lawmakers argue that the organization preys on vulnerable women and unborn children. The letter also references botched abortion cases and unsafe clinic conditions, emphasizing that women deserve better healthcare—available at the thousands of community health centers that outnumber Planned Parenthood facilities nationwide.
A Deadly Annual Report: Planned Parenthood has released its 2023–2024 annual report, revealing record-high abortion numbers and a surge in government funding. The organization reported performing a record 402,230 abortions, up from last year’s 392,715. The abortion giant continues to expand abortion access through telehealth, now operational in 42 states and D.C., often providing abortion pills without in-person medical evaluations. It also facilitated abortion travel for over 100,000 women, providing more than $3.4 million in direct travel funding. Additionally, the organization is aggressively expanding gender services, with over 430 clinics offering cross-sex hormones and nearly 40,000 recipients in 2023—40% aged 18 to 22—making it the second-largest hormone therapy provider in the U.S. Financially, Planned Parenthood’s net assets rose to $2.522 billion, and taxpayer funding increased to $792.2 million, raising serious concerns about taxpayers being forced to fund Planned Parenthood’s booming abortion industry.
“The biggest killing machine in American history continues to cut a swath of death through the American population,” says Mr. Mosher. “Planned Parenthood is proud of the fact that it ended the lives of 402,230 unborn Americans last year. And, if that weren’t bad enough, it carried out its killing spree while burning through almost $800 million of our tax dollars. Tell your congressmen that this must end.”
Protections Struck Down: A Michigan Court of Claims judge has struck down several key protections for unborn children and vulnerable women. Judge Sima Patel has declared the state’s 24-hour waiting period, informed consent requirements, and ban on advanced practice clinicians performing abortions unconstitutional. This ruling comes in the wake of Michigan’s 2022 ballot initiative that enshrined a so-called “right to abortion” in the state constitution, and it marks the first major erosion of pro-life safeguards under the new legal framework. By eliminating basic health and safety measures—such as giving women time to reflect before undergoing an abortion or ensuring they are fully informed—this decision prioritizes abortion access over the well-being of both mother and child. It remains unclear whether the decision will be appealed.
Heartbeat Heard in SC: In a victory for the pro-life movement, the South Carolina Supreme Court upheld the state’s Fetal Heartbeat Protection from Abortion Act. This means the protections for the unborn, starting around six weeks gestation, will remain in place. The law prohibits abortion once a fetal heartbeat—defined as rhythmic cardiac activity—can be detected. This ruling aligns South Carolina with other Republican-led states like Texas, Oklahoma, and Idaho that enacted similar protections following the 2022 overturning of Roe v. Wade, reinforcing growing momentum to defend unborn life at the state level.
Good News
Amazing Surgery Saves a Life: In a remarkable display of life-affirming medicine, doctors in Colorado performed a rare and complex EXIT (ex-utero intrapartum treatment) procedure to save the life of a preborn baby girl named Chloe, who had a life-threatening growth blocking her airway. At just six months gestation, Chloe was partially delivered via C-section. She remained attached to the placenta, her own “life support machine,” while the doctors worked to insert a breathing tube past the growth. With the help of over 40 medical specialists, the risky but successful procedure allowed Chloe to be safely delivered and later undergo surgery to remove the non-cancerous growth. She is now home, healthy, and currently undergoing physical therapy to strengthen her neck muscles.
Quote of the Week
“Any cuts of Planned Parenthood’s federal funding will save babies. But the Trump administration needs to go farther and axe all funding to the abortion giant. We will continue to press the administration to do just this.”
