PRI in the Media

China Retreats: In this latest article for the New York Post, PRI President Steven Mosher shared the reality that China is losing the tariff war with the United States. As President Trump pushes to bring manufacturing back to the U.S. and advances trade deals with India, Japan, and South Korea, China’s dominance as the global manufacturing hub is on its way out the door. In retaliation, China is seeing a resurgence of Cultural Revolution-era propaganda. Chinese schoolchildren are being taught to chant anti-American slogans, and official rhetoric has grown increasingly defiant. Publicly, Chinese leaders denounce U.S. pressure and vow resistance, yet behind the scenes, Beijing is quietly retreating. Trump revealed that Chinese President Xi Jinping reached out to discuss tariffs, and secret negotiations have already led to China lowering tariffs on 131 U.S. goods. Despite this, Chinese officials continue to lie to the Chinese people and the world about all of this.

China’s Crumbling Economy: As U.S. and Chinese officials prepare for trade talks in Switzerland, Mr. Mosher has warned that the Chinese Communist regime is already teetering on the edge due to the economic pressure of U.S. tariffs. With exports to the U.S. plummeting, factories closing, and youth unemployment soaring, Mosher likened China’s current state to the Soviet Union before its collapse, suggesting internal unrest and elite dissatisfaction could soon threaten Xi Jinping’s hold on power. Mosher has urged the U.S. to hold firm in its strong stance, pointing out that this may be the West’s best chance to help bring down the Chinese Communist Party once and for all.

UN Misdeeds

Africa Adopts Feminist Treaty: The African Union has adopted a feminist treaty, but remains firmly against extreme feminist views. Known as the African Union Convention on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls, the treaty includes some progressive rhetoric such as promoting “positive masculinities” and using terms like “femicide” over “domestic violence,” but many of its provisions have been tempered by conservative African governments. For example, the treaty avoids direct commitments to abortion and gender ideology, signaling Africa’s resistance to EU influence and desire to maintain its pro-life, pro-family culture.  However, it does support EU-backed frameworks like the Maputo Protocol and allows for controversial interpretations of gender and family, potentially paving the way for recognition of homosexual unions.

Science Gone Mad

Trans Treatments Always Fail: A new 409-page report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, titled “Treatment for Pediatric Gender Dysphoria: Review of Evidence and Best Practices,” reveals that the surge in transgender medical procedures for children followed earlier failures of similar treatments in adults. While adult patients may have reported improved feelings after transition, objective data showed little to no improvement in their actual life situations. Chapter 3 of the report highlights that there was no clear link between the stage of medical transition and reported happiness among adults. Despite these poor outcomes, the same flawed approach was later applied to children under the “affirming model,” leading to its widespread use despite a lack of evidence in support of the model and the clear damage to the minors involved.

Pro-Life Around the World

USAID Cuts Work: We are pleased to inform you that the cut off of USAID’s funding has resulted in immoral programs like “DREAMS,” which heavily pushed Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) being completely done away with. NGOs pushing SRHR in informal settlements were reliant on USAID funds and have since closed down. This is a win for the pro-life movement as the push for contraception, abortion, and SRHR education has been drastically reduced.

“Reports from on the ground in Africa show that the deep cuts to USAID’s ‘family planning’ programs are working,” says Mr. Mosher. “Programs like the DREAMS program in Kenya, which promoted abortion, sterilization, and contraception, have been shuttered.”

Pushback in Australia: On May 7, thousands of pro-life Australians rallied outside New South Wales Parliament House in Sydney to oppose a shocking new bill that would force Catholic hospitals to perform abortions and remove conscience protections for healthcare workers. Faith leaders, including Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP and Bishops Rabbat and Tarabay, joined the peaceful protest, calling the bill both an attack on unborn children and the moral freedom of medical professionals. Archbishop Fisher warned that in a state already known for extreme abortion laws, this effort to coerce participation in abortion is “truly fearsome, indeed hellish.” Protesters also voiced outrage that Labor MPs were denied a conscience vote on banning sex-selective abortions.

Marching in Mexico: On May 3, thousands marched through Mexico City in the annual March for Life, marking 18 years since abortion was decriminalized in the capital. Organized by Pasos por la Vida and other pro-life groups, the peaceful demonstration drew participants of all ages—young people, seniors, and families—who walked over 1.2 miles from the Monument to the Revolution to the City Congress. Holding signs with pro-life messages, marchers mourned the loss of life under nearly two decades of legalized abortion and called for stronger support and policies to protect pregnant women and their unborn children.

Pro-Life on the Home Front

Defund Big Abortion: “Big Abortion” may be defunded in the U.S., as the Trump administration weighs potential budget cuts. House Republicans are considering eliminating federal funding for abortion providers like Planned Parenthood as part of a multi-trillion-dollar budget bill advancing President Trump’s policy agenda. With a goal of cutting at least $1.5 trillion in spending to fund Trump’s tax priorities, the proposal is being discussed within the House Energy & Commerce Committee, which is responsible for $880 billion in savings. Speaker Mike Johnson has signaled that targeting “big abortion” will be a key part of the budget reconciliation process.

Admin Defends Abortion Pill Regulations: The Trump administration is defending current federal regulations that allow abortion pills to be distributed online and by mail. The administration’s lawyers do not argue for the merits of the policy, instead claiming that the three Republican-led states—Idaho, Kansas, and Missouri—lack legal standing to challenge it. In a filing with a federal court in Texas, the Justice Department urged dismissal of the case, accusing the states of “gamesmanship” and noting their claims have no direct link to the district. While pro-life advocates have fought to restrict the mailing of abortion drugs, the administration’s legal team dismissed state concerns, arguing that the FDA’s authority remains intact and that any potential violation of state laws does not constitute federal injury.

Abortion Drugs in the Water: A new Texas bill would allow the state to monitor wastewater for dangerous substances, including the abortion drug mifepristone. This is part of a broad effort by pro-lifers to recognize the drug’s harmful environmental and social impact. Championed by Sen. Bryan Hughes and supported by groups like Students for Life of America, the bill recognizes mifepristone as a potential pollutant, emphasizing the right to know what chemicals are entering public water systems. Pro-abortion activists have attacked the measure as an attempt to stigmatize abortion pills, but in reality, this is a commonsense step towards protecting the general public from harmful chemicals.

More Clinics Shut Down: In a telling sign of the abortion industry’s instability, Planned Parenthood is shutting down clinics even in states with strong legal protections for abortion. Most recently, Planned Parenthood of Michigan closed four clinics—including its last facility in the rural Upper Peninsula—despite the state passing a constitutional amendment in 2022 to protect abortion. Utah has also seen two clinic closures, with Planned Parenthood citing a loss of $2.8 million in federal family planning funds following actions by the Trump administration. The organization is now raising patient fees and laying off staff, revealing the financial cracks in the abortion empire.

Life-Affirming Alternatives: Despite its aggressive claims to be essential for women’s health care, Planned Parenthood—the nation’s largest abortion provider—is vastly outnumbered and outperformed by life-affirming alternatives. A new report from the Charlotte Lozier Institute reveals that federally qualified health centers (5,500) and rural health clinics (3,300), which do not prioritize abortion, provide comprehensive care to women regardless of income and far surpass Planned Parenthood’s 579 locations. When combined with the more than 2,600 pro-life pregnancy centers offering prenatal care, ultrasounds, parenting education, and essential baby supplies, it becomes clear that real, compassionate women’s healthcare doesn’t require abortion.

Turnaway Funds Cut: In a major win for the pro-life movement, the Trump administration has canceled federal funding for a follow-up to the notorious Turnaway Study, long used by abortion activists to promote false claims about abortion and its impact on women. The University of California–San Francisco (UCSF) was set to receive over $538,000 for research led by abortion advocate Diana Greene Foster, aiming to build on her original, highly controversial study. The Turnaway Study has been repeatedly cited to suggest that most women don’t regret their abortions and that being denied one causes long-term harm—claims which have been consistently debunked as biased and scientifically flawed. By cutting off taxpayer dollars to this agenda-driven research, the administration is standing up for life and truth.

Quote of the Week

“We know that babies are blessings. Planned Parenthood tells us babies are burdens–they’re nasty, smelly, and we need fewer of them. But the truth is that there are a lot of very elderly people now languishing in old age homes because they listened to the siren song of Malthusian myth, propagated by Planned Parenthood today, and they didn’t have children. And they’re leading a lonely life, being cared for by strangers.”

~ PRI President Steven Mosher
