PRI in the Media

U.S.-China Update: Where do U.S.-China relations stand since the meeting of Biden and Xi in San Francisco earlier this year? The New American hosted Mr. Mosher this week for an interview conducted by Steve Bonta to ask this very question. According to senior officials in the U.S. government, all major issues between the two powerful countries have been solved. But in the words of Mr. Mosher, “nothing could be further from the truth.” The promises that Xi Jinping made to Biden are essentially worthless, as he will have no qualms about breaking them. To add to this uncertainty, the CCP has increased aggression against more of its neighbors across the South China Sea. Some of which have U.S. military bases in place specifically for potential Chinese conflict.

Deepening Depopulation

Major Consequences: Industrialized nations around the world are aging. In some countries, up to 1-in-5 citizens are 65 years or older. Due to this, there are impending consequences that the future generations will be forced to face. For example, there will be a decline in working-age populations, which may force governments to raise the retirement age. Other than general economic shifts, there will be an increase in both healthcare costs and the dependency ratio around the world. There will also be inevitable pressure on the younger generation, as the minority is required to take care of the majority.

Communist China

State Media Lies: On the anniversary of Mao Zedong’s birthday, the Communist leader’s mausoleum was closed to the public so Xi Jinping could privately pay homage to his predecessor. These actions fuel the fears that Xi is creating a “Mao-style” personality cult around himself. These fears were increased by the state media’s efforts to further build Xi’s “red credentials” and reputation as a “revolutionary.” To achieve the latter, state media outlets have also built up the reputation of Xi’s father, Xi Zhongxun, as an architect of economic reform. Chinese academics confirm that these claims are exaggerated to benefit Xi and draw foreign investors back to China.

Science Gone Mad

Outlandish IVG Claims: The latest advancement in reproductive experimentation, in vitro gametogenesis (IVG), is still making headlines. The ramifications of this development are becoming more outlandish as writers’ imaginations run wild. One such claim states that eggs could be created from a man’s stem cells and sperm from a woman’s in order to create a viable embryo. While it sounds crazy, it is technically true. In today’s world, where scientists perform experiments simply because they can, it is also not unlikely. IVG opens the door to strange (and immoral) human experimentation. Scientists say that the application of IVG to humans is a “long way off,” but they have been clear that this is the goal.

Pro-life Around the World

Desperate Measures: The war between Russia and Ukraine has affected the global surrogacy market, and a new hub has arisen. According to a new report by Radio Free Europe Radio Liberty (RFE-RL), hundreds of Central Asian women are traveling to the country Georgia to become surrogates. These women, traveling from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, are willing to sell the use of their bodies in order to escape poverty. RFE-RL interviewed two surrogates, who gave their testimonies anonymously, to discover why they would be willing to go through pregnancy and childbirth for a couple they do not know. Both women were mothers with families of their own and were desperate to be able to pay off their debts. The global surrogacy market preys on vulnerable women who see no other way to be able to care for their families.

Crumbling Under Scrutiny: An assisted suicide lobby group has claimed that a majority of religious believers in Scotland support relaxing the assisted suicide law. However, their claims are based on polls with sample sizes that are too small to be reliable. The group, the Humanist Society Scotland, used the data from polls conducted by Dignity in Dying to say that, “64% of people who identify with a particular religion support legalizing assisted dying.” Yet, even Dignity in Dying added disclaimers on their data that the polls had sample sizes of fewer than 100, which should not be used since it does not cover a “wide enough cross-section of the target population.” This is simply an attempt by the Humanist Society Scotland to claim that the numbers are on their side, but it doesn’t hold up against close scrutiny.

“The culture of death has refined the practice of lying with statistics to a fine art,” says Mr. Mosher. “Advocacy, not accuracy, is the goal. As long as a supposed ‘survey’ can generate headlines in support of their cause, they will promote it.”

Pro-Life on the Home Front

Abortions for Minors: An investigation by Project Veritas revealed that Planned Parenthood in Missouri transports girls as young as thirteen to its neighboring state, Kansas, for abortions. The managing director of Planned Parenthood in Kansas City, Missouri, confirmed that clinics arrange inter-state abortion transport for minors without parental consent “every day.” Managing Director “Lashauna” shared details with the undercover journalist on how easily abortions for minors can be facilitated. She referenced a “bypass” system that the clinics use for minors, which enables them to perform these abortions without parents ever finding out. Project Veritas points out how this treatment of minors is a major red flag by stating: “The clinic’s casual admission of its willingness to perform secret abortions on minors and subvert parental consent raises concern for other ways Planned Parenthood’s ‘bypass’ system could be utilized to exploit and conceal the sexual abuse of children.”

“The lengths to which radical feminists and abortionists will go to kill unborn children is astonishing to me,” says Mr. Mosher. “Where does this reckless hate for the unborn come from?  This is more than a simple rejection of the gift of life. Abortion has literally become a satanic ritual for some of these people.”

The Fight in Florida: Pro-abortion activist groups are attempting to pass an amendment in Florida that would codify a right to abortion in the state’s constitution. The “Amendment to Limit Government Interference with Abortion” would create a new section in the Florida Constitution “limiting government interference with abortion.” It stipulates, “No law shall prohibit, penalize, delay, or restrict abortion before viability or when necessary to protect the patient’s health, as determined by the patient’s healthcare provider.” This amendment is sponsored by Floridians Protecting Freedom, Inc., which is a political committee supported by the Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates. Its vague wording would allow abortion after viability in any case where someone deemed a “healthcare provider” believes the procedure is “necessary” for the woman’s “health.” Liberty Counsel is fighting this amendment on behalf of  Florida Voters Against Extremism (FLVAE) and has urged the Supreme Court not to approve it.

CompassCare Under Attack: A woman who was charged with vandalizing a pro-life pregnancy center is retaliating. Hannah Kamke was arrested earlier this year for spray painting the word “LIARS” on a CompassCare Center’s sign. Now, along with denying that she violated federal law, Kamke is suing CompassCare for “medical malpractice.” Kamke had gone to an appointment at a CompassCare Center at a time when she had been looking for abortion services. There the employees had voiced pro-life, Christian opinions that Kamke disagreed with. Ultimately it had been determined that she was not pregnant, but her lawsuit maintains that she felt “misled…about the nature of the organization.”

Abortion on Tour: Two weeks ago, the White House announced its latest pro-abortion project. Vice President Kamala Harris will be going on a “Fight for Reproductive Freedoms” tour across the country in 2024. The start date will coincide with the 51st anniversary of the initial Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. This tour continues the Biden administration’s reign as the most pro-abortion administration in American history. President Biden has claimed that the overturn of Roe has had “devastating consequences,” though the overturn has actually saved an estimated 30,000 babies in the past year. It is clear that Biden will keep the abortion issue in the spotlight in the upcoming election year.

“Having failed to curb inflation and control the border, while engaging in pointless wars abroad and weaponizing federal agencies against the American people at home, the White House is attempting to make the 2024 election about abortion,” says Mr. Mosher.  “I say, ‘Bring it on.’ Most Americans do not support late-term abortion or infanticide, as Biden and Harris do.”

Christians Compromise: A recent study revealed that support for abortion has increased up to 10% on Christian college campuses since 2021. The study also found that 1-in-10 Christian colleges maintain a relationship with Planned Parenthood. Students for Life of America’s Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement conducted the study by evaluating 767 Christian-affiliated colleges and universities in the United States. It found that not only students, but also a “growing number of Christian school administrations, health centers, and professors” publicly support abortion. This increase in support coincides with a rise in the popularity of progressive Christianity, which compromises on biblical truths in favor of modern opinion.

“Any college that supports abortion can no longer properly be called Christian,” says Mr. Mosher.  “Our Lord said ‘Suffer the little children to come unto me.’”

Good News

Hope for the Future: No matter the setbacks that affected the pro-life movement in 2023, the hope and drive for the future of the movement have not diminished. With the annual March for Life in Washington D.C. drawing closer, March for Life President Jeanne Mancini shared this hopeful message on Fox News. Losses at the ballot boxes will not stop pro-life leaders from working toward state or national legislation. They are determined to help women and save babies, which is reflected in the theme for the 2024 March for Life: “With every woman, for every child.” While the pro-abortion movement emphasizes fear and failure for pregnant women, pro-life groups and organizations emphasize hope and perseverance.

Quote of the Week

“We want to encourage and support women, come alongside them and strengthen them; and tell them ‘you can do this. You have what it takes to do this. This is going to be hard, but it will be beautiful, and we will be here with you.’”
