Enjoy the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart and Have a Wonderful Father’s Day this Sunday!

“Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers out there who serve the Lord by leading their families in love by word and example. You are making a tremendous difference in your children’s and grandchildren’s lives. And thanks to all dads for believing in the work of PRI and praying for our work. We are making a difference in the world as a result. Happy Father’s Day.”

~ PRI President Steven Mosher

PRI in the Media

Abortion & Falling Birth Rates: PRI President Steven Mosher joined Molly Smith on From the Median to discuss pro-life issues around the world. From abortion goals in New Mexico to falling fertility rates in Nigeria. Mr. Mosher shares how the unborn are targeted by the anti-life powers that be.

COVID Birth Rates: Mr. Mosher joined Drew Mariani in the second half of this episode on Relevant Radio. He shared what happened to the fertility rate during the COVID-19 pandemic. Blue states, with strict pandemic policies in place, saw a decrease in the fertility rate while the opposite occurred in red states.

Population Worries Continue: Population experts, including PRI President Steven Mosher, have come to the consensus that the feared “population explosion” is over. But many still doubt this conclusion, despite the predictions of Thomas Malthus and Paul Ehrlich amounting to nothing but fiction.

Deepening Depopulation

Christianity & Fertility: All the developed countries around the world have falling fertility rates, but one country started this trend early: France. There, in the 1760s, the fertility rate began to fall as a result of the culture’s de-Christianization. This decline occurred a century earlier than in any other country.

“Will re-Christianization raise the birth rate?” asks Mr. Mosher. “Of course it will. Christians believe that babies are a blessing, and welcome them. The world says that babies are a burden, and rejects them. The more Christians there are, the more babies there will be.”

Communist China

A New Low for Marriage: In 2022, China’s marriages fell to an almost 40-year low. About 6.8 million couples registered marriages last year, down 11% from 2021 and the lowest number since 1985, when available government data began. This statistic contributes to the likelihood that the world’s second-largest economy will continue to fall.

“The CCP blames the decline in the marriage rate on the decrease in the young population,” says Mr. Mosher. “But it is not as if this decrease happened spontaneously. Rather, it happened because the Communists killed half of the last two generations in the ‘One Child Policy.’

“The CCP also blames the ‘unbalanced sex ratio’ for lower birth rates, but this too is the result of CCP policy,” Mosher continued. “Millions of baby girls were aborted and abandoned by parents desperate to have a son. Why were they desperate? Because they were only allowed to have one child. In killing off 400 million unborn children, the CCP has fatally compromised China’s future.”

Spies Close to Home: Last week, the Wall Street Journal reported that China set up an “eavesdropping facility” in Cuba to spy on the U.S. military. But there were conflicting responses from within the Biden administration. The most recent of which, shared by an anonymous official, confirmed that China has had spy facilities in Cuba for years, last upgraded in 2019.

No Reason for War: China has increased its military activity around Taiwan, but the clerics there are doubtful that war is a real concern. Bishop Martin Su Yao-wen shared that he believes the Chinese are simply showing their power, leaving the Taiwanese people in a slight state of fear. “Unless they (Chinese officials) have lost their mind, there’s no reason at this time to have a war. People are a little scared, but they don’t think anything will happen,” Bishop Yao-wen stated.

“It is true that the Communists have been threatening to invade Taiwan for decades,” says Mr. Mosher. “But in earlier years they lacked the means to do so. That has now changed. The CCP has built a modern navy and air force and appears determined to act on its threats in the years to come. Taiwan, with the help of the US, would be well advised to continue to arm itself and be vigilant.”

UN Misdeeds

Activists for Abortion: Pro-abortion activists requested the intervention of “UN experts” in United States abortion policy. Now these “experts” are criticizing the U.S., claiming that state-level abortion restrictions are putting women and girls at risk and violating the American obligations under human rights treaties.

Science Gone Mad

A Link to Depression: A new study exposed a serious link between women’s use of contraceptive pills and their risk of depression. Uppsala University found that contraceptive pills increased women’s risk by 73% during the first two years of use. Their study, one of the largest and most wide-ranging to date, followed over a quarter of a million women from birth to menopause.

Catholic Network Exposed: The Lepanto Institute released a report exposing the largest Catholic healthcare network for performing immoral activities. The report proves that CommonSpirit Health is performing transgender surgeries and providing hormone-based transgender therapies.

“I am saddened to learn from this groundbreaking Lepanto Institute study that Catholic hospitals have decided to engage in such mutilation,” says Mr. Mosher. “God created us male and female, and if one’s thoughts do not align with one’s physical body, it is not the body, but the thoughts, that need to be changed. This profit-driven madness must stop.”

No Evidence of Harm: Dr. Nicole Scott claimed that pro-life laws in Indiana would harm the quality of medical school applicants at Indiana University. But an investigation by The Fix showed that Dr. Scott had no evidence to back up this claim. Neither she nor other representatives of Indiana University could provide evidence for this statement.

Pro-Life Around the World

Biden Hijacks AIDS Program: A Republican congressman sounded the alarm on the Biden administration’s plan to hijack an AIDS relief program to push abortion. According to Rep. Chris Smith, “President Biden has hijacked PEPFAR, the $6 billion a year foreign aid program designed to mitigate HIV/AIDS in many targeted — mostly African — countries in order to promote abortion on demand.”

Africans Petition Congress: Leading African leaders have asked Congress to stop promoting abortion in U.S. foreign assistance for HIV/AIDS. The letter, signed by 129 leaders from 15 countries, stated, “As you now seek to reauthorize PEPFAR funding, we want to express our concerns and suspicions that this funding is supporting so-called family planning and reproductive health principles and practices, including abortion, that violate our core beliefs concerning life, family, and religion.”

Pro-Life on the Home Front

CRTL & Kroger: Next week, on June 22nd, Right to Life of Greater Cincinnati President Rachel Citak will testify at a Kroger shareholder meeting. Pro-life Kroger shareholders are pushing for greater transparency in the company’s charitable contributions, in light of the company’s willingness to pay for employees’ out-of-state abortion costs. The company’s actions moving forward could result in Cincinnati Right to Life renewing the push for a boycott.

Biden Denies Oklahoma: Last month, the Biden Administration’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) denied Oklahoma $4.5 million in funding for family planning services. The denial was due to the state’s laws protecting the unborn, providing yet another example of Biden targeting pro-life states.

Annual Report Released: Planned Parenthood released its 2021-2022 annual report. The total number of abortions amounted to 374,155, down from the all-time high of 383,460. But the report did not cover the post-Roe period, so it is too early to see the impact of the overturn on Planned Parenthood’s operations.

Good News

Moms on Campus: EWTN News undertook a new study looking at how Catholic universities help mothers facing unexpected pregnancies. Seventeen Catholic universities responded to the survey, describing services ranging from on-campus childcare to financial assistance for student parents.

“I am proud to say I was part of the Campus Care team of babysitters during my time at Ave Maria University,” says Chiara Mosher, PRI’s New Media Specialist, “We were one of the five universities that responded to this survey that offer on-campus care. I loved helping out with the littles on campus, being a part of events like surprise baby showers, and contributing to ‘Welcome Home’ baskets. It made Ave a community of more than just students but of families.”

Quote of the Week

“Love for his wife as mother of their children and love for the children themselves are for the man the natural way of understanding and fulfilling his own fatherhood. Above all where social and cultural conditions so easily encourage a father to be less concerned with his family or at any rate less involved in the work of education, efforts must be made to restore socially the conviction that the place and task of the father in and for the family is of unique and irreplaceable importance.”

~ Pope Saint John Paul II, Familiaris Consortio
