Another Norplant Horror Story

I am currently 38. I had Norplant inserted at the age of 22 in late fall of 1991, about four or five months after the trial period.

Within a few months, I started having severe bleeding. I was bleeding 3 to 3 1/2 weeks out of the month: it is documented in my medical history from that time. I also repeatedly went to the doctor questioning what was happening and if it was related to the Norplant.

I feel my regular doctor and even the OB-GYN did not have enough knowledge back then to realize the problem. I was just told it would take time for my body to adjust and regulate and was even given iron to help with the fact that I was losing so much blood.

The problem continued for years. I eventually ended up with cervical cancer which lead to a surgery in 1994 to try to save my uterus, but it was too late and I had to have a partial hysterectomy in 1995 at the age of 26! I had Norplant removed in 1994 while I was under for the first surgery. I woke up to a very swollen arm and a great deal of pain.

My doctor said it was difficult to remove. I had it for approximately three years and it had embedded deeply into the tissue in my arm. I had had bruising and a lot of pain for several weeks after having Norplant removed!

I hope this information helps you with your research/study.

News from Sweden

Dear Fr. Paul,

Thank you for your greetings and your prayers. I am glad to know that you are still engaged in the battle for life.

Here is some news from Sweden. We will have elections soon, so every party is telling us its promises for a better future. All of them are for abortion-on-demand and all, except one, for the abolition of the word “marriage” in our legislation. They claim that “registered partnerships”…of any kind may do. Last week there was a demonstration against this proposal and Bishop Anders Arborelius, OCD, was one or the speakers. But there is not much hope. Two weeks ago we went on a pilgrimage with our bishop and prayed for the family and at that occasion the bishop said in his sermon: We need nothing less than a miracle in this matter.

The media get more and more aggressive in regard to sexuality. They “report” that nowadays even girls accept and want sex without love, just for fun. In the name of “equality” you can have almost anything. It has become an obsession.

At the same time we need and establish more clinics where you can he tested tor STDs because these are going up steadily and so is suicide among young women.

Swedish researchers have made a vaccine against HIV. They say they are even surprised about the good results and now will send the vaccine to an African country for tests on a bigger scale!! In the meanwhile the devil wants us to forget about marriage, so that not even the name of God’s intention and invention can bring to your mind the only remedy and source of a healthy human society.

There is also some good news.

We pray more. There are several prayer group movements spreading over the country, mother’s prayers and prayers for marriage and families, to name but two.

The conference of the Catholic bishops in Scandinavia and Iceland recently published a pastoral letter in all northern languages on marriage and family life in which Humanae Vitae is presented and fully accepted. There are some rebellious Catholics who reacted, naturally, because they had claimed the right to use the condom, to practice homosexual love, to have women priests and to have the Pope elected by laymen, etc. They want to discuss their demands with the bishop but they are few and some of them want to remain anonymous!!

The Catholic movement for Life, “Nespeht,” has edited a booklet on “human dignity” from conception to natural death. Among the topics is a presentation of natural family planning and recommendations for care of incurable and dying persons.

The Jesuit Fathers have bought a house in Uppsala where there will be room for a theological faculty for a Newman Institute for retreats and conferences and for the seminary that will be moved from Stockholm as soon as the house is ready.

I wish you God’s blessing for all your activities and send you my kindest regards.
