With Child vs. Pregnant

Dear Mr. Mosher,

My suggestion is that (because you have such an influence over such a large population of followers) it would be good to replace the world “pregnant” with the phrase “with child” whenever possible, and to make the idea known.

Just as we don’t want to yield to Planned Parenthood’s (and company’s) desires to use phraseology that supports their agenda, such as “choice,” “freedom,” “termination of pregnancy,” and “fetus,” we should, whenever possible, use phraseology that more accurately depicts the truth even than the “neutral” words do, which were really stepping stones away from accurate articulation in the first place.

“With child” is much more descript. I believe if an organization such as yours began using this phrase, others would follow, as would a better mind-set.

Regina Pittmann

Thanks for PRI Review

Dear Mr. Mosher and PRI,

I think that the latest issue of PRI Review was one of the best.

I think it was great that you allowed Cardinal Lopez Trujillo the opportunity to respond to the slander and libel that the BBC engaged in concerning the Church’s stance on condoms.

Cardinal Trujillo did an excellent job of not only stating the correct position of the Church on this matter but also backing everything he stated with a great amount of solid research.

I also wish to thank you, Mr. Mosher, for your excellent commentary on global warming. I studied limnology and oceanography in the early to mid-’70s at the University of New Orleans. I learned early on in the course I took that changes in the climate from cold to hot and back are part and parcel of the natural history of this planet. Right now the environmentalists here in New Orleans are concerned about coastal erosion but they only blame man-made things for the problem when in truth it simply may be part of the natural history of our planet and nothing much to do with man’s activities in the area. Their ideas have the potential of killing our port, in my opinion. I hope you will continue to expose the agendas of the environmentalists.

Thanks for the kudos. We wanted, in our own small way, to help correct the BBC hit piece on Cardinal Trujillo and, by extension, the Church.

My friends in Canada look forward to Global Warming with great anticipation, but I am afraid that they are going to be disappointed.

Tax Deductible Birth Control

I just recently did my 2003 income taxes. I note that there is a section in the Pub 502 for medical deductions for what is allowed as a deduction.

As a Catholic taxpayer, it is revolting enough that Birth Control Pills are considered a deduction for income taxes, but an order of magnitude more disgusting is that having an abortion is also deductible. You can hire a “hit man,” have him murder your child, and then, welcome to the Culture of Death USA, you can deduct the price of having the poor innocent baby killed.

I have not heard anything from PRI on this subject. Perhaps you have mentioned it in previous notices. It would seem that we need to put our “own house” in the U.S. in order in more ways than one.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. The IRS code should be amended to discourage such behavior.

EWTN Programs

I just finished listening to your show on EWTN on my SIRIUS Satellite Radio. I applaud your effort to spread Christian values throughout the world. I frequently listen to EWTN on SIRIUS Radio and enjoy listening to programs such as yours. Best of luck to you and your organization in the future.

From Ethiopia

Dear Fr, Paul Marx,

Hope you are fine. We at the Ethiopian Catholic Secretariat (ECS) and family life unit are fine and doing well.

The Family Life Promotion unit, in collaboration with the Pastoral Department, is doing lots of work on abortion to help people understand and appreciate the value of human life.

Here in Ethiopia, at present, the issue of abortion is raised from every direction. According to the information we have our country is going to legalize abortion. As the result of this, different Christian denominations are putting their efforts together to combat this problem.

From what we have found out, most of the women undergo abortion procedures because of lack of correct information on the reality and consequences of abortion. For this reason, we are expected to do more in this area.

With the money you sent, we have prepared, printed and distributed a flyer on abortion. Find the enclosed copy.

The Amharic language writing on the top of the front page reads, “Human Life is Sacred.” At the bottom is a phrase from the Bible (Jeremiah 1:5) that reads, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.” Inside it explains what abortion is and the consequences of abortion. We have published 10,000 of these flyers and it is being distributed.

Father, please pray for us.

With Love,

Maria Michael and Desta Yohannes
