Hegemon Gets Rave Review
Dear PRI,
I spent much of the weekend flying which gave me the opportunity to read my newly delivered copy of Hegemon. Please pass along to Steve this review that I just submitted to Amazon.
Hegemon is a Masterpiece. Mosher delivered an extraordinary work, again, condensing impressive scholarship, detail and insights into under 200 very readable pages. He makes a strong case that the inconsistency and wishful thinking that has marked US policy toward China is putting US strategic interests, our Asian allies and, in fact, the well-being of all peoples in considerable jeopardy (under the fair assumption that people flourish where there is democracy and respect for human rights). China has made a “great leap forward” all right…in advanced technology and military weaponry through 1) the willingness if some American businesses to put their “bottom line” ahead of national security, 2) purchasing US and Soviet technology from Russia, and 3) successful industrial and governmental espionage in the US. Our assumption that opening China’s market and encouraging limited capitalism there will necessarily lead to democracy is almost pathetically naive. Mosher explains that most mainland “entrepreneurs” are related to China’s ruling elite and have no incentive to change a system which works to their benefit. I’ve long been uncomfortable about China’s human rights record. Now I’m determined never to buy another product made in China. Instead, about a dozen people on my Christmas list will be getting Hegemon.
Blessings to all!

Beware of China!
Dear PRI, I am a member of the Uyghur nationality from Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. I have listened to the C-SPAN discussion on the book written by Steven Mosher, Hegemon, and fascinated with the way he looks at the issues in China. I personally support his ideas totally.
I do believe it is the aim of China to dominate Asia and the World. It is going to be a great threat to the citizens of the earth if a country like China that believes the Chinese people are superior to any others on the earth becomes strong. Once China gets sufficient power to challenge the US, then a lot of dangerous things may happen. I personally think the US has to conduct a careful watch as it is deciding its relations with China. This is very important not only to US but also to whole world. In a lot of cases, it is not an education that makes a person to choose a right path but the ideology. I truly support the idea of Dr. Mosher that it is not a good thing to feed the dragon until it gives freedom and democracy to its citizens. If the US continuously feeds the dragon, its power to oppress 1.2 billion human beings increases and more and more killings may happen because of the strength. In Xinjiang Uyghur, people have been dying for no legitimate reason. To me, it is not a Chinese Government that decides whether a person live or die but God. Unfortunately, the world is doing very little to stop this tragedy. I am so happy that Dr. Mosher has written this book and his ideas are holy. I appreciate him very much.
With peace,
Abdul Ahat
