PRI Insider (Volume 3, Issue 12) March 24

“Our Lord was present in Our Lady’s womb from the instant she pronounced her famous fiat,” says PRI President Steven Mosher. “Life begins at conception.”

May you have a blessed Feast of the Annunciation tomorrow!

PRI in the Media

Saints Being Made:  Last week, PRI President Steven Mosher presented in Hobart, Australia at the invitation of the Christopher Dawson Centre for Cultural Studies. He shared the current persecuted state of the Catholic church in China. There, Catholics are under the worst pressure since the beginning of the communist regime in the 1950s.

“If you’re Catholic in China, you’re a second-class citizen,” PRI President Steven Mosher said. “It doesn’t matter whether you’re in the underground Church or the Patriotic Church… You’re discriminated against simply because you’re a Catholic.”

Forced to Adapt: The CCP’s Sinicization program is well underway, but the Vatican has yet to publicly react in any way. As the plan moves forward, Catholics in China are under mounting pressure to conform to a set of beliefs completely opposed to the faith.

New Surveillance Tech: The CCP has boosted its surveillance of religion with the rollout of the “Smart Religion” app.  It goes hand-in-hand with a recent mandate, which requires citizens to register and reserve spots at all religious services. According to PRI President Steven Mosher, “the CCP is using modern technology to create the world’s first hi-tech digital dictatorship.”

Communist China

New Purges Coming: Xi Jinping is once again following in the footsteps of his idol Mao Zedong. He and the CCP are looking to begin a Mao-style “rectification” plan, to root out anyone in opposition to Xi’s ideology.

Graduates Push Back: Complaints from recent graduates in China are going viral for posts regarding the lack of quality jobs. Many young adults hold high-level qualifications but are being told by the CCP to settle for low-quality and low-paying jobs.

“Saint Pope John Paul once said ‘work was made for Man, not Man for work,’” says PRI President Steven Mosher. “The CCP is saying, as Communists always do, that you will do whatever work we assign you to, regardless of your feelings on the matter. This is Marx’s idea of ‘industrial armies’ once again coming to life.”

UN Misdeeds

Pro-Life Maternal Health: Last week, the UN-sponsored an event on the importance of maternal health without promoting abortion. The event, “How Embracing the Geneva Consensus Declaration Advances the Well-being of Women and Girls,” took place on March 10th. It was also notable for being the first time the Geneva Consensus Declaration was highlighted at the UN and acknowledged by governments since its formal filing.

Feminist Defeat: Traditional countries held strong against the Biden administration and Western counties during the UN Commission on the Status of Women. In the end, tradition prevailed. Despite progressive pressure, the final agreement did not include the following phrases: “comprehensive sexuality education,” “sexual rights,” and “sexual orientation and gender identity.”

Science Gone Mad

Risks Across the Board: Hormonal birth control is available in a variety of forms including pills, patches, implants, or injections. Due to their differences, researchers assumed their cancer risks would also differ. But a new study shows that each causes an equal, increased chance of developing breast cancer.

“Pro-lifers have known for years about the link between hormonal contraception and cancer thanks to the work of Dr. Angela Lanfranchi,” says PRI President Steven Mosher. “The only reason the public at large is still in the dark is because the FDA has helped the drug manufacturers minimize the connection.”

Pro-Life Around the World

Millions for African Abortion: The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has launched a new initiative designed to “tackle gender inequality.” The initiative, the Women and Girls Strategy, will use up to 200 million pounds of taxpayer money. These funds will pay for programs that push abortions and pro-choice campaigns in Africa.

“It is nothing short of bizarre that a dying country like the UK, with a birthrate well below replacement, is so determined to drive down the birthrate elsewhere,” says PRI President Steven Mosher. “It is hard not to see this as racist.”

Committing to Pro-Death Policy: One political candidate in Scotland is all for abortion and has taken to Twitter to announce it. Humza Yousaf, running for First Minister, shared that if successful he aims to make abortion more accessible. He supports abortion on demand, up to birth, as well as sex-selective abortion.

Bill Passes the House: The day after another UK buffer zone arrest, the House of Commons passed the Public Order Bill. This legislation makes praying silently outside an abortion clinic or engaging in consensual conversation with someone going inside the clinic, a criminal offense. Perpetrators earn themselves a criminal record entry and a fine of between 100 and 1,000 pounds.

Pro-Life on the Home Front

First to Ban Abortion Pills: Last Friday, Wyoming made history by being the first state to ban the use of abortion pills. The legislation allows few exceptions, including the aid of natural, spontaneous miscarriages. But all illegal use of these dangerous drugs will now incur criminal penalties for the physicians or persons who provide them.

Notre Dame Falls Further: This past Tuesday, Notre Dame’s gender studies department hosted an event on the intersection of trans care and abortion care. The event’s key speaker was an abortion activist. Both this event and its key speaker were in complete opposition to the teaching of the Catholic Church, the foundation that this university was built upon.

“It is unclear on what grounds Notre Dame still claims to be a Catholic university,” says PRI President Steven Mosher. “Neither its faculty nor their course offerings any longer differentiate it from secular schools.”

Caught in the Middle: Walgreens continues to be caught in the middle of the abortion debate. The pharmacy chain is experiencing both pressure from pro-choice politicians and pro-life attorneys. The former urged the corporation to provide abortion pills in all states possible, while the latter petitioned that they refrain from dispensing the pills completely.

Good News

Grandpa Saves the Day: Bret Langston delivered half a dozen babies in his 28 years as a firefighter, but he never expected that one would be his own granddaughter. But when his wife and laboring daughter realized that the baby wouldn’t wait for them to get to the birthing center, they went straight to the fire station. Within 10 minutes, a baby girl, Adalynn, was in her grandfather’s arms.

Quote of the Week

“That’s exactly why Jesus became man, was crucified, and rose — to save us human persons from the sin and eternal death of which only we are capable. Jesus’ self-gift of love shows us that no matter what our physical or intellectual capacities are, or what mistakes we’ve made in our lives, we have dignity because we are loved, chosen, and willed by God, who made us for eternal communion with Him in heaven.”
