PRI in the Media

China’s “Research” Balloon: Last week, China attempted what can be assumed was “gray zone” warfare against the United States. China tested the limits of what it could attempt before provoking a response. Though the balloon was eventually targeted and shot down, the nation’s hesitation may come across as weakness.

Deepening Depopulation

Prager Imitates PRI: Following in the footsteps of PRI, PragerU released a video examining “The Myth of Overpopulation.” The doomsday predictions that fuel population controllers’ initiatives are outdated. As Marian Tupy points out, the truth is, “the more people we have, the more abundance we have.”

Communist China

Zen’s Health Deteriorates: After visiting Rome for Pope Benedict XVI’s funeral, Cardinal Joseph Zen fell ill. He was feeling poorly prior to the trip but took the journey anyway to pay his respects. Now he remains in the hospital, receiving treatment for multiple ailments including breathing difficulties.

Nominated for the Nobel: A group of bipartisan lawmakers nominated six activists of the Hong Kong Human Rights movement for the Nobel Peace Prize. Among these nominees are Cardinal Zen, Jimmy Lai, and four others that work to bring freedom to the Chinese people.

“Pray for brave Cardinal Zen, who has stood up to the Chinese Communist Party his entire life, and is now in the hospital,” says PRI President Steven Mosher. “There is no one more deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize.”

Cut Ties with China: The 2023 International Religious Freedom Summit renewed the call to boycott goods produced by forced labor. Goods from China, produced by political prisoners and enslaved minorities, permeate the world market. It may be difficult, but it is not impossible to avoid them and petition for their removal from the market completely.

Science Gone Mad

Brain-Dead Surrogates: Last year, Bioethicist Anna Smajdor shared her support for using brain-dead women as surrogate mothers. Through “whole body gestational donation,” she argues that their bodies can be used as “fetal containers.” Smajdor completely condones this misuse of the human body, seeing no issue as long as the individual consents before death.

“The so-called ‘discipline of bioethics’ has turned out to have neither discipline nor ethics,” says PRI President Steven Mosher. “It is a haven for total amoral—or immoral—speculation about things like growing babies in the bodies of brain-dead women. I thought that growing babies in pods was the height of reproductive technology’s immorality, but it seems I was mistaken.”

The Gene Editing Scientist: He Jiankui shocked the world by introducing the world’s first gene-edited children and faced swift punishment for it. But despite having years to reflect, he won’t admit he was wrong to do so. In a recent interview, he shared that he now believes, “I did it too quickly.” However, he expressed no regrets nor issued any apologies.

Pro-Life Around the World

Pro-Life President Censored: Malta’s President was censored by the Public Broadcasting System for part of his Holocaust Commemoration Speech. President George Vella warned against modern-day racism and discrimination, stating “millions of unborn babies are being killed before they even have the possibility to see the light of day.” This line was scrubbed from the broadcast despite PBS’s responsibility to report the news objectively.

The “Easy” Fix: Canada continues to face mounting issues with their lenient euthanasia policy. According to one Canadian citizen, it takes over a year to get psychiatric help but only two weeks to make a euthanasia appointment.

“Government-run health care programs have always controlled costs by rationing care,” says PRI President Steven Mosher. “But now the Canadian Health Service has found an even better way to control costs:  Simply euthanize your patients.  It takes only two weeks to be processed for a poison shot, but a year to see a psychiatrist for treatment for your suicidal thoughts.”

Late-Term Whistleblower: A nurse at a Montreal hospital leaked the shocking story of a baby aborted at 38 weeks gestation. She shared further details of how the doctors operated, with no details on why it was performed except that it was a “special case.” Canada will see more of these types of operations in the future, as it looks to make abortion at any stage allowable for medical or social conditions reasons.

Pro-Life on the Home Front

Coerced Turns to Forced: A new study revealed that over half of women who have had an abortion felt high levels of pressure to get the procedure. Even these numbers could be on the low end, as the researchers reported that many participants quit, most likely due to the stress of completing the survey.

“It is often said that social science generally proves what is already obvious to any thinking person,” says PRI President Steven Mosher. “This study is a case in point. Most pro-lifers know directly from suffering women how these were pressured, harangued, cajoled, and threatened into aborting their unborn children, unleashing a lifetime of regret. A young woman who is told by her boyfriend, parents, or school counselor to get an abortion is being denied a truly free choice in the matter and this new study shows that it happens about 61 percent of the time. This is why Crisis Pregnancy Clinics are so important. They give young women the time, space, and information they need to choose life.”

Texas Sues Biden: A Texas attorney general is suing the Biden administration for illegally forcing pharmacies to carry abortifacients.  This lawsuit is a response to the guidelines issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (“HHS”) in July 2022, which required pharmacies to carry abortion-inducing drugs.

Lawsuit Targets FDA: Liberals are growing worried over the developing case of Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The Alliance, composed of medical associations and doctors, holds that the FDA failed its mission—to ensure the safety, efficacy, and security of drugs—when it approved mifepristone in 2000.

Claiming to Codify Roe: In his State of the Union address, Biden catered to pro-abortion audience members. Once again, he urged Congress to codify Roe v. Wade, an idea he has pushed since the overturn that has so far gone nowhere. He went on to claim that he would veto any abortion ban that hits his desk.

Reasons for Abortion: Last year, after the overturn of Roe v. Wade, the Charlotte Lozier institute released data on the reasons for abortion. This fact sheet reveals that over 95% of abortions are for unspecified, elective reasons. Of the remaining 5%, health reasons account for 2.7% (with risk to the mother’s life being only 0.2% of this), abnormality in the baby 1.3%, and rape/incest only 0.3%.

Good News

A Little Survivor: At seven weeks pregnant, an expectant mother attempted to abort her baby using abortion pills. At eight months, she realized she was still pregnant and decided to give her baby a chance at a good life through adoption. Today, baby AJ is well taken care of by his adoptive parents, Brandon and Laura. He has never shown any negative health effects from exposure to abortion drugs.

Quote of the week

“A woman’s baby is not a cancer to be destroyed, but a human life to be cared for and given the best chances for life.”
