PRI in the Media

American Academia & China: In his new book, Mike Pompeo exposes the relationship between America’s universities and China. Each Chinese student comes with full tuition, buying a university administration’s cooperation with the unspoken “keep China happy” policy. PRI President Steven Mosher’s ousting from Stanford, for exposing forced abortions, is an early example of this policy in action.

Deepening Depopulation

Industrialized and Dying: In a new documentary, one data scientist sets out to understand why birthrates have been falling across the industrialized world and beyond for decades. Over the course of this four-year project, Steven J. Shaw travels to 24 countries and interviews 230 people. Shaw uncovers an “unplanned childless crisis,” in which many people delay having children until it’s too late.  This often becomes a deep regret in their lives. He finds that, according to the data across every country, “women who are childless at 30 at most have a 50% chance of ever becoming a mother.”

Shaw laments the coming population collapse, “In life, I’m always optimistic about everything. But I’m not about this. I don’t think people realize what’s going to happen.”

Canada’s Not Having Babies: A new report showed that half of Canadian women are falling short of their fertility desires. More women are ending their reproductive years with regrets over the children they wish they’d had, or “missing children.” While fewer are experiencing “excess” or “undesired” births.

“There is a lot of ‘frustrated fertility’ in America as well,” says PRI President Steven Mosher.  “Many women wish they had had more children.  We have to craft family-friendly policies that enable them to do so.”

Feroe’s High Fertility: While fertility rates fall in many European countries, one area remains unscathed: the Faroe Islands. The area boasts traditional family values, lengthy maternity leave, and generous childcare payments. As a result, they have the highest total fertility rate in Europe, which has consistently been above replacement for the last 30 years.

Communist China

All Restrictions Dropped: Sichuan province announced a new attempt to reverse China’s declining population last week. This southwest area now has no restrictions on births. Whether married or unmarried, Chinese citizens in Sichuan can now have and register unlimited children.

“For years PRI has supported Safe Houses in China that sheltered women fleeing forced abortion,”  says PRI President Steven Mosher.  “Those homes are still full, despite the progressive relaxation of the one-child policy.  It is still illegal in many parts of China for a single mother to give birth.  Moreover, Uyghur and other minority women are still being sterilized and aborted in large numbers.  The CCP wants more children from the Han, and fewer children from Uyghurs, Tibetans, Kazakhs, etc.”

China’s “Human Mines”: The CCP’s attempts to boost birth rates are being met with anger from the general public. Though quickly censored, the term “human mine” spread across Chinese social media like wildfire. The term’s meaning, that citizens are  “treated as consumable products from the moment they are born,” is the unfortunate reality with the CCP.

“As China’s population declines, I believe that we will start seeing forced pregnancy in China,” says PRI President Steven Mosher.  “The same Communists who forced women to abort their babies will soon be forcing women to conceive and bear them.  The one-child policy will come full circle.”

The Serious Sex Imbalance: A viral video from a blind dating event in eastern China illustrated the serious sex imbalance that China is facing today. Twenty men lined up in hopes of achieving a date with one woman. This is representative of the statistical fact that China has 32 million more men than women, as a result of the one-child policy and sex-selective abortions.

UN Misdeeds

CFAM Calls Out LGBT Expert: The Center for Family and Human Rights stood up to the UN’s LGBT “expert,” Victor Madrigal-Boroz, last week. The organization pushed for Madrigal-Borloz to recognize the importance of religious and conscience freedoms, over sexual orientation and gender identity.

Urging the UN: The International Organization of the Family (IOF), joined by other organizations around the world, sent a petition to the UN. This petition, arranged in advance of the  Commission for Social Development, urged the UN to protect family rights and religious values.

Science Gone Mad

Positive Pregnancy Care Advances: Researchers funded by the Human Placenta Project developed a new MRI method that enables a detailed view of the placenta. This allows a view of the oxygen levels in each region, as well as any malformations in blood vessels. With this method, doctors will be able to detect and prevent pregnancy complications early on.

Pro-Life Around the World

The Buffer Zone Debate: The UK amendment that would introduce nationwide abortion clinic buffer zones met pushback in the House of Lords this week. Several peers spoke against the legislation, due to concerns over freedom of speech. Due to the amendment’s vague wording, it will make any alleged “influence” on a person’s abortion decision illegal, if passed.

Ireland’s Abortion Scandal: Northern Ireland’s Department of Health attempted to mislead the public by stating that only 53 abortions occurred in 2021/2022. That figure only represents a fraction of the true loss of life. It reported only the hospital in-patient and day-case abortions. The actual total, adding together terminations in all settings was 1,684.

Pro-Life on the Home Front

Houck Off the Hook: On Monday, a jury found Mark Houck not guilty of violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) act. The pro-life advocate, and father of seven, was arrested in the fall for defending his son from a clinic escort. Until his acquittal this week, Houck had the threat of eleven years in prison over his head.

“All pro-lifers should celebrate Mark’s exoneration,” says PRI President Steven Mosher. “But these charges should never have been brought in the first place.  He and his children will never forget the terror of the FBI raid on his house, the months and months of time spent preparing for the trial, and the financial cost to him and his family.  In this case, as in so many, the process is the punishment.  The FACE Act needs to be repealed.”

Minnesota Embraces Abortion: On Tuesday, Governor Tim Walz signed the fundamental right to abortion into state law. This legislation makes Minnesota one of the first states to put in new abortion protections post-Roe.

Vermont Protects Abortionists: Lawmakers in Vermont are considering a pair of bills that would protect abortionists and gender-affirming surgeons. The bills would also define abortion and transgender surgeries as, “legally protected health care activities.”

Arrests Finally Made: After eight months of investigation, two arrests were finally made for one of the post-Roe pregnancy center attacks. The Miami Police Department charged two individuals for the vandalism of three different centers in Florida, between May and July 2022. This hopefully signals the start of further arrests, holding all the perpetrators responsible.

“It is one thing to arrest these abortion activists for destroying a crisis pregnancy center,” says PRI President Steven Mosher.  “It is quite another to prosecute them to the full extent of the law.  I expect that this prosecutor, who has a history of abortion advocacy, will either drop the charges, or agree to a slap-on-the-wrist plea bargain, once she feels she can get away with it.  We have a two-tiered justice system in this country run by people who are utterly without integrity.”

Good News

Dispatcher Delivers Baby: A pregnant dispatcher helped guide a South Florida couple through the birth of their own baby after labor started unexpectedly. Jessica Quitoni was a sympathetic voice to the couple during the call, which only lasted 37 seconds. The rapid labor ended with the successful birth of a healthy baby girl.

Quote of the Week

“Ultimately, abortion is an uncompassionate response to a difficult pregnancy, one that pits a mother in crisis against her preborn child. Women and their preborn children both deserve better – they deserve all of us to stand with them, and to provide solutions that empower them both to have a positive future.”
