PRI in the Media

The China Security Risk: PRI President Steven Mosher joined Frank Gaffney on “Securing America” to discuss the ever-present security risk that is the Chinese Communist Party. China always has to be on America’s radar because of its history of crimes against humanity, as well as the abuses it currently perpetrates. The “Bully of Asia” projects an image of strength and power, but in reality is crumbling from the inside. China is experiencing a self-induced “suicide of the society” due to the mass genocide it mandated against unborn babies, the one-child policy. While their country begins to flounder, the CCP continues to terrorize while it can. Issues of the last several years include both the enslavement of the Uyghur Muslims and the use of biological warfare against the world. But the most recent issue involves the Chinese app, TEMU. Advertised as a harmless shopping app, TEMU actually funnels the personal data of all downloaders straight to the CCP. Once collected, it is stockpiled and available for future misuse.

China’s Harvesting Industry: In an interview with The Epoch Times, a Chinese-born doctor recounted his gruesome experience with organ harvesting thirty years prior. In 1994, Dr. Zheng Zhi was called up to assist in a surgery being performed in the back of the van. To his horror, Zheng quickly realized that the young man being operated upon for his organs was still alive. This testimony corroborates the first-person accounts shared with Mr. Mosher in the 1990s detailing the execution of Falun Gong prisoners for their organs. The methods used by the CCP evolved from the execution of the prisoner before the operation to the paralysis of victims for the operation while they were still alive. It is estimated that the CCP murders between 60,000 and 100,000 young people for their organs every year. The exposure of this practice sparked global outrage and motivated the U.S. House to pass the “Stop Forced Organ Harvesting Act of 2023.” Whether these actions will make a difference is yet to be seen.

Mother Wrongfully Arrested: Individuals and organizations are becoming more reliant on artificial intelligence, but AI is not the perfect system people believe it to be. Earlier this year, Porcha Woodruff, a pregnant mother, was wrongfully arrested and detained after facial recognition software identified her as a criminal. The Detroit Police Department was responsible for this mistake, with Police Chief James White admitting that the detective work on the case was shoddy. According to White, the AI provided 73 possibilities of who the criminal could be and Officer LaShauntia Oliver did not follow through on these leads properly. This introduction of AI into the police force is unsurprising with the move to incorporate technology into security around the world. Reflecting on this, PRI President Steven Mosher, quoted in this article, has shared, “I, for one, do not want to live in a hi[gh]-tech digital dictatorship of the kind that we see in China, where everyone is tracked throughout the day on surveillance cameras, not to mention on their own phones.”

Victim Used to Push Abortion: A Peruvian Congressman has exposed the truth that the abortion lobby is using the case of a pregnant rape victim to promote the “need” for legal abortion. The case in question involved an 11-year-old girl, Mila, who was abused by her stepfather. Congressman Alejandro Muñante, spokesman for the Life and Family Caucus in Peru, stated, “What I see is the utilization of this case by the abortion lobby. I’m not really seeing a genuine concern. Nothing is said about the protection and accompaniment of this minor, not only at this time but also in what happens to her later.” While the abortion lobby pushed the death of the unborn baby as the only solution, pro-life leaders pushed for Mila’s medical, psychological, and financial care, as well as protection to prevent her abuse from ever happening again. Carlos Polo, PRI’s Director of the Iberoamerican Office, shared his concern for the young victim. “Once the abortion law is obtained, they will forget about girls like Mila,” Polo shared.

Deepening Depopulation

The Utah Miracles: Utah is best known among the states for its booming economy, which is widely regarded as the best in the nation. The “Utah Economic Miracle” is marked by exceptional economic growth, a favorable business climate, and high rates of economic mobility. But the benefits of living in Utah are not only financial but also emotional and physical, as the state is ranked No. 1 for overall “well-being.” While there are many factors that contribute to these high stats, Utah’s success is also attributable to the strength and stability of its families. No other state has as many men, women, and children in married households. As of 2021, over half the adults in the state were married and a whopping 82% of the children were living in married-couple families. This “Utah Family Miracle” just proves the theory that strong families are the strongest predictor of economic success.

“The family isn’t mentioned in the U.S. Constitution, because the Founders took its existence for granted,” said Mr. Mosher. “We can no longer do so, since the family itself is under attack from multiple directions–from radical feminists who denounce it as patriarchy, to government welfare programs that seek to supplant the mutual support that spouse provide for each other with welfare checks, to the hook-up culture which discourages lasting commitment. Getting married, having children, and building a strong Catholic family is becoming a countercultural act.”

Communist China

Activists Arrested: The Hong Kong police arrested ten individuals for breaching national security laws through connections to the 612 Humanitarian Relief Fund. The police released a statement further detailing the ten detainees’ suspected crimes as “conspiring to collude with a foreign country or with external elements to endanger national security.” These are the same organization and charges used in last year’s arrest of Cardinal Zen. Among the detainees is Bobo Yip, a prominent pro-democracy activist and former chairwoman of the Diocese of Hong Kong’s Justice and Peace Commission. If convicted, Yip and the rest of the arrested men and women could face a lengthy prison sentence, up to life in prison.

“Catholicism is in direct and irreconcilable conflict with communism or any form of totalitarian government,” says Mr. Mosher. “The communists know this, China’s dictator Xi Jinping knows this, which is why they are intent on destroying the Catholic Church in China, as well as in Hong Kong. There, no quarter will be granted. Unfortunately, many in the present Vatican seem not to know this.”

Burke’s China Comments: In late July, Raymond Cardinal Burke delivered a homily decrying the persecution of Catholics in communist China. Held in Stamford, Connecticut’s Basilica of Saint John the Evangelist, the Mass was a votive Mass of Our Lady Help of Christians, with the cardinal regularly invoking the intercession of Our Lady of She-shan, the Mother of China. Burke railed against the CCP for its offenses against the Catholic Church, including the disregard for the Sino-Vatican agreement. He also offered both Cardinal Zen and the late Bishop Kung as sources of inspiration and strength for the public to be true to the Church.

UN Misdeeds

Ceding to the WHO: Congress is set to adopt a new global health initiative to fight tuberculosis that would have the U.S. work with other governments and the World Health Organization to develop standards and programs. But pro-life advocates are concerned over this course of actions, due to aggressive pro-abortion lobbying from the WHO. The WHO is actively working to integrate “sexual and reproductive health” language into the End Tuberculosis Now Act. As seen with other UN organizations and their terminology, this translates to the inclusion of abortion and homosexual/trans issues. Further concerns over the act include a potential lack of transparency. If the act passes, it may become impossible to track how U.S. foreign aid funds are dispersed. The U.S. funds could be easily misused to promote abortion and the spread of LGBT ideology around the world.

“Every health program run by the U.S. government and international agencies like the WHO has been subverted by abortion advocates,” says Mr. Mosher. “Otherwise sound programs have been hijacked by those who are less interested in promoting good health than in disabling as many healthy reproductive systems as possible. We stopped this under President Trump’s Mexico City Policy, and we must do so again.”

Science Gone Mad

Testosterone During Pregnancy: A controversial study, released by a group of transgender sociologists without medical degrees, advocates for the use of testosterone during pregnancy for transgender individuals. The sociologists believe that “cisnormative and judgmental” doctors discourage the practice because of “discriminatory beliefs” rather than scientific research. However, using testosterone during pregnancy is scientifically proven to be dangerous and pose risks to unborn babies. These risks can include congenital deformities, miscarriage, and preterm labor. The conductors of this study pushed testosterone as a solution to potential depression and body dysphoria in expectant women who identify as men while ignoring the dangers to the developing human being.

Pro-Life Around the World

A Renewed Call: Right to Life UK has called on the Government to reinstate in-person consultations before an abortion can be procured. This move came as a response to the upcoming court case involving a woman, Bethany Cox, who conducted an at-home abortion on a baby that could have been born alive. While the age of viability is 22 weeks gestation, legislation considers a baby capable of being born alive after 28 weeks gestation. Based on the limited information available, the baby in this case was at least 28 weeks, if not further along. Cox was charged with two offenses: (1) taking a drug with the intent to destroy the life of a child that was capable of being born alive in the knowledge it would lead to the termination of the pregnancy and (2) administering a poison with intent to procure a miscarriage. Right to Life UK, along with many medical professionals, insists that the lack of in-person consultations is leading to a rise in the number of women who have inaccurately estimated their gestational age at home prior to receiving abortion drugs.

Pro-Life on the Home Front

Uncovered Abortion Partners: The Lepanto Institute has uncovered a partnership between the Catholic health system CommonSpirit Health and a women’s clinic that provides telemed abortions. In 2021, CommonSpirit Health announced a new partnership with Tia Women’s Health, a move that greatly helped the women’s clinic to “scale up.” While it was not offering telemed abortions at the time, Tia has always been transparent about its goals to expand into the abortion industry. The clinic got its start in 2017 as a chat-based app, “Ask Tia,” which was designed to answer questions about “birth control, sexual health, insurance coverage, and more.” In mid-2022, a year after partnering with CommonSpirit, Tia announced it would be providing medication abortions through virtual visits in New York and California.

“The Lepanto Institute, with which PRI has partnered on investigations in the past, does excellent work,” says Mr. Mosher. “Stay tuned for more revelations from the both of us in the months to come.”

Planned Parenthood to Pay: A Texas lawsuit argued this past Tuesday could force Planned Parenthood to give the state over $1 billion in Medicaid payments and fines. The lawsuit was brought forward by an anonymous whistleblower who is part of the anti-abortion group Center for Medical Progress. Backed by Texas Attorney Ken Paxton, the suit alleges that Planned Parenthood engaged in Medicaid fraud. If the state wins, the pro-abortion organization would have to pay back about $17 million in Medicaid payments, plus more than $1 billion in additional penalties and punitive damages. Such a financial hit would bankrupt every Planned Parenthood affiliate in Texas, forcing the state’s remaining clinics to close.

Good News

Let Them Grow: The Lancaster County District Court in Nebraska has rejected the abortion lobby’s bid to block the Let Them Grow Act, which protects unborn babies after twelve weeks. By twelve week’s gestation, all major organs have formed and all prominent facial features are recognizable. Babies even start sucking their thumbs and responding to touch at this time.

SBA Pro-Life America’s Western Regional Director Adam Schwend responded to this victory with the following:

“Life is winning in Nebraska. The Legislature worked hard to get the Let Them Grow Act to the finish line, and it is expected to save hundreds of lives a year by protecting babies from painful abortions after 12 weeks. Judge Maret respected the will of the people, rather than imposing the abortion lobby agenda of late-term abortion on demand at any time for any reason.”

Quote of the Week

“True love is possible in our families, in our charitable works, in our parishes, and in your Knights of Columbus councils. The world is searching for it, and it is Jesus whom they seek. Let us receive the gift of God’s love, that we may be emissaries of Jesus who made such love possible.”
