Chinese Communist Party on War Path Against Catholic Church

The 2018 Sino-Vatican agreement only furthered persecution of the Catholic Church in China

FRONT ROYAL, VA – August 6, 2020 – The Chinese Communist Party, the greatest abuser of human rights in the world, has been ramping up its persecution of the Catholic Church in China.

PRI President and China expert, Steven Mosher, has been in close communication with the underground Catholic Church in China.

One of his contacts, whose name we can’t disclose to protect her safety, said, “The walls are closing in…I don’t know how much longer we will be able to continue our work of evangelization here.”

Two years after the agreement between the Vatican and Beijing was signed, which involves collaborating on the approval process of bishops, there are still 52 dioceses in China that do not have a bishop. Meanwhile, only five bishops have been approved by the Chinese Communist Party as “legitimate.”

This comes after it was revealed that the Chinese Communist Party hacked Vatican computers, perhaps to reveal the Vatican’s negotiating position before the renewal of the agreement.

“It would be bad enough if the agreement with the Vatican — like nearly all other international agreements entered into by the CCP — has turned out to be a dead letter.” Says PRI President, Steven Mosher. “But it is actively being used to coerce bishops and priests into joining the Patriotic Association on the false grounds that the Holy Father has ordered them to.”

Steven Mosher is author of Bully of Asia: Why China’s Dream is the New Threat to World Order. Bully of Asia is one of the best-selling books on Amazon in its department, and is used as a playbook on U.S.  China policy by the Trump Administration.
