China Offers Free IUD Removal to Cries of Outrage

The same Chinese government that has forced IUDs on tens of millions of Chinese women after the birth of their first child has decided that some of these women will be allowed to have a second. Rotterdam alderman Hugo de Jonge argues that judges should be able to compel—by force if necessary—women to use birth control who the state determines to be living with an irremediable learning disability, mental illness or suffering from a drug or alcohol addiction. “It concerns children who are born into families where it …

China’s family planning police are widely hated and feared by the Chinese people. And who can blame them? For the past three and half decades, the family planning police have been the enforcement arm of China’s brutal one-child policy, carrying out the Communist Party’s mandate that couples have no more than one child, or no more than two if the first child was a girl. Couples who did not comply with the policy could face …

A New Dawn of Reproductive Freedom in China?

Washington, D.C.—Under China’s new two-child policy, forced and coercive abortions and sterilizations will continue, according to a panel of experts on China’s one-child policy who testified in a hearing before the Congressional-Executive Commission on China (CECC) on Capitol Hill last Thursday. Experts believe abuses will continue. Due to 35 years of stringent population control, China’s rapid aging and shrinking labor force could lead Chinese officials to mandate women to increase childbearing. “The same Party officials …
