Federal Judge Blocks Religious Accommodation to HHS Contraceptive Mandate

A federal judge in Pennsylvania has placed a nationwide temporary hold on the Trump Administration’s accommodations for persons with moral or religious objections to the HHS Contraceptive Mandate. Judge Wendy Beetlestone, a district judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, on Friday issued a temporary injunction on the Administration’s newly implemented accommodation. Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro (D) filed the case against the Trump Administration. Several other states including California, Massachusetts, and Washington State have …

Trump Administration Lifts Onerous HHS Contraceptive Mandate, Litigation Ensues

On Friday, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) reversed the deeply controversial Obama-era Contraceptive Mandate which had forced religious employers to violate their religious beliefs by facilitating access to contraception in their employer-sponsored health care plans. Following the release of new HHS guidelines, Attorney General of California Xavier Becerra (D), Attorney General of Massachusetts Maura Healey (D), Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson (D) and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) were quick …

Will the New U.S. Congress Protect Life Once Harry Reid’s “Roach Motel” Goes Out of Business?

For the last four years, the U.S. Senate has been the place where pro-life legislation went to die. I do not mean to make light of the devastating hurricane that hit the northeast coast the week before the election, but it was a pure gift for the …

Last week the Second International Patient Privacy Summit took place in Washington, D.C. Our part in this conference was to bring Catholic Church teaching to bear on the question of who effectively owns these health records. Do we have a natural law right to these records which are, after all, collections of intimate information about our very selves?

Catholics: We Are Not Second-Class Citizens

Every Catholic should be outraged that the Obama administration is attacking our faith in this way. The only way to explain this is as a piece of pre-election political pandering to the sexual revolution/Planned Parenthood types, with an unhealthy dose of anti-Catholic bigotry thrown in for good measure.
